Hey, I have a 1997 nl fairlane ghia v8, and im looking at camshafts at the moment all im wondering is whats the max lift at the valve you can go before valves hit pistons?
The engine is standard. im looking at some decent cams 230 @ 50 but im worried about the lift. ive got 4.11s in the rear and a manual box getting fitted as well as a decent shot of gas..... ![]() Getting ready for powercruise!!!

Its NOT just the lift..
This is a how long is piece string question.. What heads etc for cam this size?? Check Crane cams site for N20 specific cams etc.. Valve size is another clearance issue, along with valve train being able to withstand cam geometry. Crane 2031 is safe performance cam with EFI.. Besides you'll loose s**t low rpm torque with 230 @ 50 cam.. Even with 115 LSA on std stroke 5.0...

Hey
If you have standard E7 heads and the HO intake manifold then I would be fixing to change them first. |

But you gotta remember this is Squeek, moto is ram gas in till it goes bangthen fix it. Right?
So you want lift and duration yeah? Stock heads? the V8 boys will know, just wait for Brett to see this thread.

Thats me lol!!!
As i said stock standard engine, unopened. And i was looking at those cams, thats why I thought id ask the question how much room is there before i bend valves. 4.11s and a man who needs bottom end??? LOL Im sure many of you remember my nos el fairmont 6 from the creek burnout comps and powercruise 6..... Give it hell!!!

The ports on a SOHC 6 are like 4v Clevo head ports campared to E7 heads.. Best bang for buck is some 1;72 ratio roller rockers, Gt P heads and AU inlet and maf with 24Lb injectors if your using N20....
19"s imo are not up to the task, a walbro 255 in tank pump also..

I don't know if this is any help, but I was told that with the 1.72s, I would be pushing my luck trying to get a bigger cam in there with the stock pistons

Thanks for the replies,
Thinking I might just have to spend the extra and get a set of afr 185s. See how the budget goes, pistons are cheap so i might throw a set in there, with the valve reliefs. What are peoples thoughts on intake manifolds? Will the trickflow box r manifold fit under the bonnet of the fairlane? Also edelbrock do a super victor manifold ( carby style ) to suit efi, just need a 4 barrel throttle body...

If you look in the for sale thread, there's a set of 185s going very cheap. I don't know if they still available or not.

I was about to mention those 185s, they're a bargain! If I had the $$$ I'd snap them up.
For camshafts look at Comp Cams, they do a couple of specific nitrous grinds.
