I'm just wondering whether there's an easy tell to know whether the ISC is working incorrectly. I'm having some problems with my idle and no matter what I change in the tune, it doesn't seem to be of any help. I'm wondering if it's f**k.
Does anyone have any laying around that they know are in good working order which I'd be able to borrow to see if it makes a difference?

It's PWM driven Scaffy. The only way to tell properly is to monitor it with a CRO but the problem is, it is constantly changing to maintain an idle speed depending on many different conditions.
What functions are you changing? |

What problems is it displaying with the idle?
Fluctuating, too low, too high, all of the above ![]() Is it clean?

XR9UTE, without BE here in front of me, I couldn't tell you off the top of my head. Pretty much anything to do with ISC I've edited, just to see what it does and nothing seems to make any change. Maybe I'm not making big enough changes or maybe the ISC is rooted. I gave it a clean with some tb cleaner and that made no difference.
The problem is that the car won't hold idle when I come to a stop. It just dies. The only way I can get it to idle is if I tap the throttle at around 1000rpm and if I'm lucky, it'll settle. Otherwise I have to come to a stop in 3rd and when the revs get down to around 1000rpm I can put the clutch in and she'll idle. Thanks anyways Timmeh.

Take it to a decent tuner before you do some damage that cant be repaired

Its not the MAF? Mine did that when i first got it, would stall and or hunt when coming to a stop.

What is your base idle set to?

Shanon - everything is pretty well sweet with the tune now. This is my only issue. After I get on top of this it'll just be fine tuning. Messing with the idle won't be causing any damage.
Brett, I'm no longer using the Pro M maf. I'm back to the AU one. The Pro M was too big for my application. The AU is spot on. Jeff, I don't remember off the top of my head. It's around 600rpm I think before it wants to stall. You've got me thinking... I might set it a touch higher and see if that helps.

From what I've read on a number of forums is that the base idle should be set in diagnostic mode so it's just above stalling, then you rely on the isc to control the idle through the tune. The car idles at 800 or 850, when idling. I don't remember right now exactly. I may have got something wrong along the way as my terminology could be a bit off. I can maybe see a benefit of setting the base higher so it idles a bit more comfortably and not relying on the isc so much.

Disconnect the isc while the car is off and then start it to see where it idles, should be between 560-600rpm with the stock cam so i would say a bit higher because yours has a bigger cam.reconnect the isc and thats it.
From max ellerys. You dont actually have to have it in test mode to do base idle, the isc just needs to be disconnected while you check it.

YeahChad i had problems when mine was set to about 750-800, would stall as you cme to a stop etc, exactly the same problems your having.
I then bumped the idle up myself to about 900-950 and its never had a drama since, that was 18 odd months ago.

I think that's done the trick! Thanks Jeff. Base idle was about 690 - 700. I bumped it up to 800 and it didn't stall on me once today, although it came close. I'll probably increase it by another 50 when I get a chance next and hopefully that'll be it sorted.
So it seems there's no problem with the isc. Sweet!
