id bet blocked radiator, probably from casting sand.
i doubt it would be a worn waterpump impeler, never seen one wear enough to slow the flow down.

So a blocked radiator would heat up when revving the car?
When at idle it doesnt heat up at all.. But as soon as the revs climb, it will heat up to the top... How do you unblock a radiator??

Unblocking is done by removing the end tanks and running a rod through the cores. Not worth the effort. A stock replacement can be had for under 300 or a big core PWR( like mine) for 1k

If the radiator is partly blocked it may not get hot at idle but as soon as ther motor is put under any sort of load/revs the marginal cooling system cant keep up and it gets hotter. If the clutch fan is noisy then it will be ok, that means its working. If the radiator is the original then it will be stuffed. My eb had an after market rad when i got it and that was f**k too(full of casting sand from the block) My eb doesnt have a stone tray and it stays cool, it ran on quarter with the clutch fan and it runs on quarter with the thermos(sits between the a and L in normal)

UPDATE
I had the mechanic remove the radiator and clean it. I flushed it seversl times but somehow he pulled out a handfull of brown sand? He reckons its chemical weld stuff someone must have chucked in there. He said it means the head gasket could be rooted in the not too distant future now that he cleaned it all off. Others on here have said its casting block sand? The car runs really cool now and there is no leak from the exhaust of coolant so I think the mechanic is playing games sayin the head gasket is on the way out for all that sand to be in there..

If your NC Fairlane is getting hot it could be several reasons.
If you are not loosing water the it aint the head gasket. The sand is from the block, all V8 Eseries do it. If the radiator has been cleaned out and the NC still heats up. Update the pump and bin the mech fan. First upgrade to any eseries pre EF should be thermo fans - keep motor cool and provide better throttle response. |

I'll second that.......deffinately piss of the clutch fan and throw thermo's in. I have only just done mine and it has made a massive improvement to throttle response and doesn't sound like an aircraft carrier taking off......should have done it a long time ago

Hi mate. I know this is a bit off the track but i had the EXACT problem with my Kawasaki road bike. It turned out to be an air lock in the cooling system. They say it was in the water galleries in the motor. To fix the problem, they put what water they could in the radiator and let it idle to operating temp. once the thermostat opened and the water level dropped, REAL SLOWLY - they kept trickling water in until full. Motor was shut down and it just sat (with cap off) for 30 mins. water was then topped up again and cap put back on. PRESTO. Problem solved.
Hope this may help in some way. Good luck !!!!!

hmmm, seems mine could possibly have the same problem. i'm running a quite cold thermostat (160) and normally i never have overheating issues. last couple of days have been around 40deg so had to have a/c on. guage got to about 1/2, which may not seem hot but given the thermostat and where it normally sits, that is hot.
one thing i've noticed is the top hose on mine becomes pressurised so much it will force coolant out from where it joins the radiator, no matter how tight you do the clamp. i realise the system is pressurised but not that much. you can't even sqeeze it, it gets that tight. is this another case of blocked radiator? might be time for a new radiator for me too. still running a clutch fan on mine as well. might have to do the whole kit and caboodle. xr6turnip - gee you go through some cars. did you sell the fairmont 5.0? Eb is still running strong!!
