Has anyone else put three way 6x9's into their front doors and real solid 6x9's in the tailgate yet? Other than me.... I know Rick did it - and we have the same problem - the tailgate wants to fall on yer bleedin noggin whenever it's open. Has anyone seen that BUCKAROO game for the kids where the horse kicks all your carefully placed luggage around the room when you nudge it? Well - is a little like that really. You nudge the car and - crash. One time a cat put a paw near the hinge and... Crash. One time a butterfly landed on it, and... Crash... You guessed it - I am constantly having to make up new spacers for in between the original boot body metal and the plastic liner as the screws keep being ripped out by the momentum of the speakers continuing when the door has stopped......

Not sure if uncle Ford really meant for the back door to take a KG or three of speaker on each side......

Not really sure if I'd advise others to follow suit without doing something about those gas struts first....

Hey Banarcus

I have hot soldering iron in hand as we type. I am in the middle of building the adpter loom for the NF Lane Cluster to work with the EB1 wiring harness.

The rest of the interior is already stripped out of the Red EB, except for the dash and door trims.

The plan is to have it all in and functional by the end of this coming week.

if you look enough you will find a place (even on ebay) that so XR6 wagon tail gate gas struts. the difference i hear you ask? the XR wagons had spoilers ;) and therefore they made them stronger to help with the weight. there is a guy on ebay, i was reading his ad last night and he said to let him know what model car you have and if it has a wing... as he sends you the correct ones. so if fitting quality speakers id be looking at a set of these.

how do the 6x9's go on the tail gate? many rattles?

A few rattles --- I removed the whole key mechanism and filled the tailgate void with padding. There is a rattle from the actuator / latch area someplace. I am always getting rattles out the plastic on left side which was solved by packing materal into it around where it screws in to the metal of door. My previous wagon had same issue on left. The rattles are only audible outside the car really. If you have the tailgate open (like, let's say at a BBQ in the bush) and the stereo going loud the sound of the speakers is actually louder than any rattling....... ;)

And now, once again, we return you to the topic of this thread....

Progress Report

I now have this in my lounge room for a second time. LOL

Image

I am in the middle of building the Cluster Adapter loom to allow the NF Fairlane Cluster to work with the EB1 loom.

And my son Luke has been busy with the cars too.

He has swapped the good Leather seats into the Green ED Ghia, from where they originated and the wagon looks a little bare at the moment.

More progess updates soon.

Cheers

You better put your Fairlane back together Mick and go for a drive down the F3!

What have you got to go around the manual shifter to match in with the EF Fairmont console?

not quite, i have been in discussion today with ben, he has fitted the EL console to the EB dash untill the EL Dash goes in. its a bloody ugly look, but when you want cupholders and power windows you dont have much choices.

The only difference between an Auto Console and a Manual console is the Gear Shift indicator and the Gear Boot.

Yes, I was getting quite annoyed at the lack of cupholders, especially now I am stirring the gears myself.

As Huggie said, I have been a busy boy. The BARE Wagon floor is pictured up above. This is what it looks like now.

Hmmmm, what is that poking out between the seats?

Many thanks to a_total_tool for the EL GT Gear Boot. Cheers Mate!!!

As you can see, I have put the EL Sedan carpet in, which fits with no mods what so ever, and the EL Consol, scuff plates, and carpeted kick panels. The EL handbrake is bolted in, and I have drilled and filed (prick of a job) the hole so that the handbrake cable now passes through the floor. I have cable tied the EL cable to the EB cable until that mod is sorted.

The shifter surround trim required some filing for it to fit under the EB dash, and I had to trim the EB lower A/C duct that joins with the EB Console. The Console does not match up at all, but is only a temporary measure while I sort out the Dash Mods/Loom etc.

Cheers
BenJ
