I think I've found out why the idle is quite bad, I've noticed my voltage is never 14, ever. I watched that video again and noticed the voltage was dropping as it was revving, which is the opposite of what is meant to happen. After talking to REW93N, it turns out my alternator is probably cactus. It is putting too much load on the engine at idle causing it to drop in rpm or stall. Last night the voltage was sitting at about 11.8...
So it's time for a new alt.

Check your ground straps too. (batt-chassis, engine-chassis)

If you get a resonator, you'll have a nice deep civilised idle but might get a bit raspy throughout the revs. Well thats what my system does, even after carboning up. |
