Just wondering where you picked up your drivers side weather shield from?

I got that from Supercheap auto. A very lucky find I think. Augner slimline.

Yeah it seems like a lucky find, a quick look on their site suggests they do not stock them :(

I'm sure they'll order one in for me, but some quick google searching suggests they're about $60 each?

Is that too much lol?

I have no idea what I paid for it lol.

I learned a funny thing about my car today. The neutral switch works in every gear except for 2nd. Weird...

Well, I finally got some paint mixed up for the bonnet for $50. 500mL of colour and 1L of clear. The spraybooth at work was just cleaned out, so now is the time.

Also, I just found out that I can do 1 TAFE module online and I will be qualified in Cert III in Mechanical Engineering :D . That's a Fitter in non official terms. Then I can get my Disconnect/Reconnect signed off and then I'll have a restricted electrical license.

Cheers,

-Evan

You cant get a restricted electrical licence.
You will put me out of a job with my full one!
Nah seriously grab as many tickets that become available to you as possible. You may think you will never use them but they come in so handy.

This is true. It's a little scary when your workplace is a little shakey and the only thing you are qualified to do is drive a forklift

Well, on Sunday, after shuffling stuff around in the garage so you can fit a car in it, albeit a 323, I finally got around to sorting the rear speaker situation. I wanted to keep the stock speaker grilles and thus end up with a 'stealth' set up and not have ugly spacers.

The first thing I did was remove the stock speakers from the car and cut the mounting rings off them. Then I took the studs off. And using the spacers I had previously used to mount the speakers on TOP of the parcel shelf, I mounted the speakers UNDER the shelf. Like so:

Nobody would suspect a thing!

Too bad one of them has a sticky voice coil :(

So don't store your speakers in the shed for 4 months near where your are using an angle grinder or welding. Generally anywhere where you are going to be creating heaps of ferrous metal particles to get stuck to the magnet.

Cheers,

Evan.

Hmmm, might have to do that to my current ones as I hate the black speaker covers...
Does it affect sound quality at all do you know?

Thanks, it took a a while to think of a way to make it work. Seems so simple now lol.

The one that is working properly seems to be fine. As long as everything is done up tight, there won't be anything to cause vibration.

And don't leave your sunglasses in the bootlid opening, because you will shut the boot and mangle them.

This afternoon I finally fitted the AU heatshield.

Image

Good thing I did as some of the bolts were loose.

I've really got to replace the rocker cover seal. There's a bit of a big black oil patch in the carport...

I did the weekly check on the 323. Found no coolant in the overflow, evidence of coolant going everywhere and nothing in the top tank... I checked the oil. All good, no blown head gaskets. So refilled the coolant and ran the engine. It seems there is a pin hole leak in one of the hoses that come off the bypass tube. At least it's accessable at the front of the engine. I should be able to get some hose from work. Looks like 5/16".

The Bonnet is BLAAAACK

As the title suggests, the bonnet is black finally...

Last week I got the compressor fixed up with new nitto fittings, a 20m hose, secondary pressure regulator and no leaks. And this morning I picked up an SCA brand gravity feed spray gun. It looks like a copy of a STAR. Seems to work ok for home use.

So, I sanded the spray putty that I applied I don't know how long ago back with 400 grit dry and then laid on another couple of coats of primer. After that had dried, I took it back to 400 again, then 600 wet.

And then it was the moment of truth. Of course the wind picked up as soon as I started painting...

But, it didn't seem to effect it too badly.

Image

Image

Seems to match up ok:

Image

I had juuuuuust enough paint too. If was doing this sort of thing more often, I would want a higher CFM compressor. I got half way up the bonnet and the compressor would kick in and I would be running out of air by the end.

So, before clear goes on, rub it back to 600 wet again???

Cheers,

-Evan
