i feel your pain with batteries, i have 3 here, one of which my mate paid 280 bucks for (i got it with a car) and it was 4 months old when i bought the car, it NEVER worked and never charged...

the other 2 here were good but wont hold charge, charge them overnight and you get 1/2 a days use. my other mate replaced the battery acid and they seem to work fine but it never works for me

Yeah they suck, I remember thinking I'll have to replace the alternator in my XF before the battery goes beyond salvation, but I kept putting it off and had to pay out for a new one..

And thanks Huggiebear, you just reminded me about the warranty, I'll dig the receipt out when I get home. :)

Yeah that sounds good. Nothing worse than going to use your car, especially if you're running late and hearing that ticking sound of the starter trying to engage and turn.

Lol yeah that'll kill it too.

Well there wasn't much wrong with the DC yesterday, although
i noticed when I had got too far past town to go back before they close that the front left hand side of the car had been damaged.

The indicator was broken, light trim pushed back, bar mount cracked clean off, bar pushed in, guard scratched, bar scratched.

I'm not f**k happy about it, it was either a pedders staff member who did it or the exhaust shop who they share the area they leave the cars they are working on. I'll be calling them today and going in on monday to sort this crap out.

well after calling them they say they knew nolthing about it and he said it wasnt pissible as he had done the work on it himself. a few minutes later they called back and said one of the workers had noticed the damage because he knew where there were parts for it..

bloody pricks. ill be going in on monday to talk to them. it certainly wasnt damaged when i dropped it off.

does anyone know of some consumer rights group who deal with this sort of thing? and do pedders have some sort of 'duty of care' to customers property?

ill also be talking to the business who co uses the park with them. and also see if theres video survalance of the area, they cant damage stuff and get away with out correcting it.

ill post some pics of the damage later after work

thats no good at all hope this all gets sorted.

few years back when caltex had mechanics on doing servicing my dad dropped his freshly resprayed xf ute off to get a service the mechanic left it out of gear and it rolled into a pole. they wouldnt pay up dad ended up $1500 out of pocket to fix it.

seeing about video cameras is a good idea, could it be possible a customer hit it when picking up there car?

Yeah it's possible, but he did say that one of his workers observed it had damage, although I don't know when he made that observation.. When I go in on Monday I've no doubt he'll tell me he noticed it as soon as I got there to clear himself.

But it did NOT have any such damage when I left it in pedders care..

I was talking to a guy I work with today who used to be a lawyer and he said should speak to the ACCC or some other one, which I can't remember.

I'm also going to see what kinda of liability pedders have, and talk to the business they share the customer cars park with, see if they know anything about it, unlikely I'll get far there though. I also doubt they have any video surveillance and certainly not anything with enough resolution than you could make out the condition of the car going in..

Exactly, if I don't let them slip out of their responsibility they'll have to fix what they caused.

I'm going to call Pedders in launceston and get some info on what they are and aren't liable for. And also call the ACCC and see what my rights are.

Ah well, have to see what happens I guess.

Here's how it is now:
Image

You can't really appreciate the level of damage from the pic, but you can see the crack and missing piece of the indicator, the light trim pushed in and the bar pushed in too, you can't see the scratches on the bar or guard or the broken bar mount though.

It's a bit of a difference from this:
Image Image

The bar has a gap between the guard of a few mil but it's a vertical spacing, not an inward one from being pushed in from contact.

Yeah mate I know, it sucks.. My first LTD had both front and rear bar problems, the rear happened when I backed into a 4WD by accident, I had a shattered rear shield so I looked to see if there was anything in the car park before I got in (it was closing time at a hardware store) the whole car park was empty, the 4WD must have parked in the time it took for me to reverse out..

This is as good as I got the bars looking:
Image Image

They looked okay, the rear still sat a bit lower than I wanted it to though, in my sig you can see how the front and rear bars were sitting, it was fair bit worse before I fixed them, the rear was sitting down about 5cm and the front was crooked and sitting a strange angles. It took a fair bit of adjusting on the rear bar, but I had to re-fiberglass it and bash the steel L shaped 90° mount bits back into the proper position, I didn't have a spare bar on hand at the time.. The L 90° brace mount bits were bent by a good 20° or something around that.

But yeah, it'll never be the same as it was.

More good news, I went to jump start my EF to move it to my place and it barely turns over.. I think it may be hydra locked.. If it is then the condition of the engine is a lot worse then I thought.

If you leave a car with a mechanic or any sort of workshop, they have a duty of car to not damage your vehicle & to repair any damage they get done.

JUST DON'T go to see their "mates" at a panel shop to get it fixed, they will do a quick dodgy job & leave you even madder. It's happened to me when < PM ME FOR COMPANY NAME IF YOU WANNA KNOW > LPG crashed my car into their concrete barriers at their workshop, badly damaging the bottom of my GT front bar. They tried to deny it, and i advised lawyers & ACCC & VACC will be involved if they don't fix it. I took it to the workshop they said their insurance wanted me to take it & the front bar had a bit of bog work around the cracked fibreglass & then a quick splash of paint. They didn't prime or sand the bar at all, if you look closely it's not color matched & it's a piss poor job. I ended up dobbing that panel shop & the LPG shop into the VACC at the end of it.

Do you have insurance (laid up?) on it? If so, speak with them, sign a stat dec that the car wasn't damaged before it was delivered to the workshop, and your insurance will bat for you on this one, it wasn't your fault so they can't drop your rating or increase your premium.

Good luck with sticking it to them for their f**k up! Don't back down on it!

Cheers

ToranaGuy
