Unfortunately, your base figures are not correct. An EA T5 has a 5th gear ratio of 0.78.

This means that at 100kph with a 3.27 your revs will be 2150 and in a 3.45 2275. I can confirm this is correct as my wagon has 3.27 gears and an EA T5 and sits at 2150 at 100kph.

At 130 I am reving at 2750. Quite busy but still relatively comfortable and the engine seems to sip fuel lightly at those revs while cruising.

BenJ.

Thanks BenJ,

Went back and had a look and found another 3 sources proving the 5th gear to be 0.78 as benJ mentioned.

Ive edited all the 5th gear and 100km/h figures in the previous post.

Regards,

Michael

Hey everyone started pulling out the 3.27 diff i have last night but stopped at 7 when dinner was ready and the mozzies got to bad.

Planed to finish getting it out just have to break lines and undo the bottom shocky bolt and it will drop out, then just have to get my 3.08 out and put the 3.27 in, will make a fair difference with my auto in still.

Regards,

Michael

Sounds good, let us know how you go. At least that way you can swap the speedo gear thing to your car too.

130 in 2nd you say???

Would be different with your 4 spd auto compared to old school EA T5 spd,

Interested to know how fast factory stock ED GLi 4sd auto goes, top speed wise. might go find out on interwebs.

Well ille ventually have the EA T5 with a 3.27 behind it witha EL hybrid running it all so i should go close to what you have, with the AU engine does your car still hit rev limiter at 6000rpm as the cluster reads? or is it all different for you. So keen to get my car on dyno.

im running an el tickford ecu and the limiter hits at 5750rpm.
so those speeds are right before rev limiter and the au engine pulls all the way to rev cut in every gear..

After 1 very borings morning decided to get out in the rain and pull the 3.27 out of a car and replace my 3.08 with it, i know you say it didnt happen with out photos but its was rainging and i wasnt taking my camera outside.

Good news once brakes were bled, went for a drive and straight away with no effort at all teh first right hander out of my street and it was single spinning, it was a tad uphill and hammering down rain but still my 3.08 wouldnt ahve donw that with out a healthy stomp to get it started.

Any ways im now in the market for a 3.27LSD!

Regards,

Michael.

Heres a couple of random pic's to go with the diff swap i did the swap yesterday and took the pictures today so the works 75% done, one is the fairmont with no diff and the diff on ground is my old diff with the old fairmont brakes and rotors, i put my DBA's on.

Now for some bad/annoying news!

Help please guys, i had to swap the cog so the speedo reads properly, i got the green one out to go into mine to match the 3.27. I got the 3.08 one which was still on my gear box i took out teh 1 bolt and pulled out teh unit it slid out perfectly to hassles with the rubber o ring in perfect nic. but whats this theres only about 25% of teh cog on here meaning the rest of it is in the gear box so slowly with my pinky i went hunting and i ever so slightly touched it and it fell bad into the gear box, ARGH YoU F**KinG LitTlE Kent oF a tHinG sdighsdlkgasdlkjg.

so yer, my guess is i have to take it to a gear box place.

Or... Use this as an excuse to put my T5 in, but i dont have my manual test untill the 17th of this month i could be a rebel and drive it any ways but im not keen...

Then again ive got the auto and engine from the car i crashed sitting here, more work to change over but cheaper then getting a gearbox guy to pull it apart plus im not sure if its ok to drive it there plus ill have no speedo.

Heres a picture of the 2 units. i notice the broken one has the metal clip holding the cog on different, one of then is on the wrong way.

If anyone is interested in a cat back exhaust with no resi and one muffler ask asbout it, i dunno what brand it is but atleast its mandrel bent. Not taking it off unless someone is interested.

Regards,

Michael.
