Funny how things turn out. Been looking around for a car for the missus now for a while, from AU XR's and Fairmonts to G220's and AU Lanes/LTD's and you know what she picked? An '04 Toyota Echo  Now I'm happy that she's happy, and I will also be liking the fuel bill and maintenance costs.....but I didn't see that coming
One step closer to ridding myself of old cars I suppose, but the Lane is still my baby and shall remain regardless of where this Journey takes us. Unfortunatley, the old LTD is still here. Haven't had time to go anywhere near it, so in order for this driveway thing to happen, I'm just gunna have to settle for what I have removed from it and let the rest go......time to call in the metal scavengers :P

Finally found some motivation to hit the back yard this weekend and get stuck into the LTD after driving the Lane on Friday to get the old girl registered for another year. When I got home I decided the LTD was just an eyesore and had to go, finally
Started yesterday with removing the drivers side doors and panels & stripping the engine bay of anything removable. Today I removed the dash and the last of the interior trim and then set to work on removing all of the wiring harnesses.
I then started to strip down the engine and was not surprised at the condition of the internals. I doubt this poor old girl was ever serviced regularly......everything was covered in an inch of black sludge  Still haven't found the cause of the major hemorrhaging that would be the final nail in the coffin, but I will as I dig deeper into her internals.

Yeah, after seeing that, I don't think this motor will ever see the light of day again. Coffee table it is then
Don't think this motor has ever been opened it it's 20 years, had to use a hammer and chissel to pry the rocker covers off!
Hardly can recognise it as an LTD anymore :(

Cheers,
Mick
BTW, anyone in need of a 5.0L wiring harness???

If nobody on here wants the harness, eBay that stuff, I'm sure someone out there will want it! I don't need it, I've got a spare 5.0 harness here lol. Gotta love wrecking car's sometimes.

Coffee table v8 sounds good, can't wait to see the build thread on that one! I'd love a v8 coffee table but my fiance will kill me!

Cheers

Must admit, I've had fun tearing the DC apart, and learnt quite a bit along the way. And my parts shed is now bursting with spares! Good thing knowing that whatever goes wrong with the NC, I'll have a part to fix the problem.

Not really interested in selling anything on evilbay, there are just some things I can't see myself needing, so willing to part out a few bit's'n'pieces

As for the V8 coffee table, been wanting to do it for a while. But I don't think it will make it to the lounge room......more likely to end up in the man cave, when I get around to building that

Cheers,
Mick

I know what you mean about the parts shed, mine is bursting at the seams too. I've sold off a few things recently that I can't see myself doing anything with for a while.

You will have to get onto building that man cave so you have somewhere to put the v8 coffee table!

Cheers

I might take your harness for a spare Mick, what are you asking for it?

The first stage of the mancave becoming a reality is the current motivation to get the LTD stripped finally. Can't pour a slab with that sitting on it's guts wasting space

I even took the opportunity to finish work early today and spend a couple more hours finishing the interior tear out, it's now 100% wireless and all metal!

Cheers,
Mick

Thanks mate, still puts a smile on my dial when it comes out for a spin, and the black rims have given it a whole new look, which is more than I can say for the poor old DC....20 years of neglect is what that motor is showing me

G'day Mason,

Make me an offer mate. As you know, parts from these old girls are only worth what someone is willing to pay. I now have the entire wiring loom from front to rear (minus a couple of little wires that go between the 2 front seats  ). I can box it all up and get a weight for it if you want to know what the shipping costs are going to be?

PM me your thoughts!

Cheers,
Mick

Going good thanks OZ, how about you? Big cruise on the 12th August for "Sids for Kids" starting at the Knights Stadium and ending at Hunter Valley Gardens via Maitland. Might see you there eh?

Mick
