ford wont be able to "retune" your car. the only way is with a J3 chip.

Ive decided that after I pay for rego ill be building my CAI with custom airbox to house a pod filter then ill be getting a retune. The CAI will consist or custom piping that goes into my gaurd and wraps round to the front bumper to have the outside air rammed in and ill be making a better snorkel to replace the factory one. Combined with my ported throttle body and half shated knife edged butterfly with heatwrap around my CAI piping to keep the air cooler im looking at getting at the least 10rwkw I hope.
Im also thinking of going to ford to get the retune unless someone knows of a better place in tassie.
It doesnt matter where as long as they listen to what I have to say without going great another 18 year old that thinks they know everything. I dont know everything I just want them to listen to my questions as I like to learn especially when it concerns my car.
What are people opinions on what pod to use. Like K&N or just a off the shelf one from repco, supercheap or autobarn?

Pod filter will do a little to improve your airflow using the log manifold considering the airbox configeration of an EA/NA airbox. You could fit a K&N style filter to your current airbox, that will probably do as much to the airflow.

As for heatwrapping your intake, don't bother, there is only very short piping from your airbox to your log manifold. If you install the BBM with an EF airbox and BA Piping you will find more of an impact on your response as well as a small increase in RwKw. As for 10RwKw, don't hold your breath, youe will go blue :D .

What are you going to tune, have you got a J3 Chip yet?

If you go to Ford for a tune they will laugh at you. There is nothing they can do for a 1991 ECU. They are not tuneable on their own, that is why there are companies like SCT that supply J3 Chips and tuning software. As far as a tune from Ford, it will be, change the plugs, leads, Oil, & filters.

Look around, get yourself a J3 chip and do all your mods before bothering with a tune. Then there will be something to tune.

Okay cool this mod is all I can do for a fair few month because I need to stop spending money willy nilly. The main reason I want a retune is because its running rich. When I start it I can smell fuel but before all the mods ive done it didnt smell at all. When I did the au gasket I started to smell it when I did the fuel filter abit more but ever since I did the extractors and 100cpsi cat its really strong to the point where I start it and have to walk off for about 30 seconds. If a retune wont rectify this problem what will?

Sounds like a j3 is the way to go then.

If you have an overfueling issue that you have to walk away from the car because of fumes, then you need to rectify the problem, not just think a J3 is going to patch it up.

When was the last time you checked your airfilter?

Is your air temp sensor connected?

What condition is your o2 sensor, when was it last changed?

What condition are your injectors, what size are they?

What condition is your Fuel Reg, what pressure is it?

Airfilter is new with about 500km done.
wheres the air temp sensor?
O2 sensor looks new but cant afford one right now.
Injectors are the factory ones.
Fuel reg is standard pressure with about 500km done aswell.

You can talk about tunes and airboxes and pod filters etc but you can't afford a $60 o2 sensor. You will never be able to tune the car unless the o2 sensor is OK.

Have you bought a workshop manual?

From reading back a few pages it appeared there was a vacuum leak thus your heater not working correctly?
Have you fixed it?
A vacuum leak will cause it to run s**t and rich.
By a quick read you really have stuff all done to the motor.
A tune wont fix anything.
Something is f**k. Find it and fix it before doing anything else.

Yeah I have a workshop manual.
But the place ive been going to wants $126 for an o2 sensor.
What should I look for in the manual?
I have the sheet metal for the airbox I also have a pod filter just need to get some pvc piping so its virtually free as its about $50 for the piping.
The airbox im making will have a lid to it so I can change the coil and headlight globes if need be as im making it to fill the gap where the factory one is.

What about bosch? Thats the one I was given the $126 price tag on.
Ive read the manual and all it really says on over fuelling is either new or the injectors.

Ive also decided that once money and time allows ill be doing a barra conversion. But by time I mean in a few years when I can afford the motor and rebuild it for a turbo.

NTK in my opinion are a better unit all day, every day. Others are all good also.
