So its back together. Happy about that. For info, it will run with the stock EGR and TB, but wont make the improvement it should with a 65mm TB.

Good luck and speak to you tomorrow about it.

Brett

Cheers Matt.
Well it wont be together today now. Called the so called professional up that is doing the injectors to find out if I can pick them up.
Reply was we dont have all the bits we need. They will be here at 2PM so we can do them then.
For f**k sake why take a job on if you cant do it without rooting people around.
Worst bit is I have already paid for them to be done , and if I go get them , get my money back and take them elsewhere who else is going to f**k me around?
f**k pelicans.

Too p****d off to even go and look at it at the moment.

It started!!!!
Then coughed , f@rt , died , started again , various random f@rt and coughs , died and then the battery went flat.
Oh well.
Have a few dramas to sort out. The upper has to come back off as the injector rail is leaking somewhere.
There is a few modifications required to get the plugs in properly. Number one needs the brace to the dipstick cut off to be able to get in to tighten it properly and to get the plug lead on.
The left extractor looks like it has to come off to get good old number 5 in and tightened properly. The I have to mod the lead with a 90 degree end. I have some here so I think that will be ok.
Good thing I got the Irridiam plugs. Meant to be good for 100000kms.
Im fairly s**t and over it at the moment , but there was no mechanical bangs or explosions so I have to be happy about that.
Will get it right in the end. Im over giving myself deadlines to have it running by. It seems everytime I do that 1 thing goes right and 3 things turn to s**t.

It lives!!!!
Well sort of.
It starts and idles pretty bloody rough on 7 cylinders and the timing is miles out.
Couple of little jobs to fix for it to be 100%.
The following needs to be done to complete the saga.
Remove left hand extractor and fit number 5 plug correctly and refit extractor.
Get a couple of new spark plug leads as the plug angle being different has made my 1 & 5 leads too sort and the dizzy cant be adjusted because of the lack of length. Will just buy a couple of singles , fit the 90 degree boot to 5 and see how it all works. If all ok will get a MSD lead kit from the states and make a new set of good leads up.
Remove the upper manifold , reseat the couple of leaking injectors and put it back together.
Fit the throttle cable retaining plate and the throttle cable.
Do the timing and change the oil if nothing blows up in the meantime.

Only a little bit to go. Should be running soon fingers crossed!

Finally it all works.
Need to get a bigger throttle body and MAF to bring it well and truly alive but so far its ok.
Had a few issues getting it sorted out , luckily they were not big ones , just a*** pains.
Will go into more detail later on when I can be stuffed.
While the GT40P and Performer II upgrade is a worthy addition to an E series 5 litre there are a couple of small traps that you can easily fall into. They are easy to get around with it pulled apart but become a real pain in the a*** once it is together and it has to be pulled back apart to fix them!

Thanks Ross.
Im chasing either a 65mm or a 70mm Throttle body. Loose too much torque with a 75mm. ALso I already have a 70mm EGR fitted so am a bit restricted to a 70mm max.

Just got back from XTT909's where an AU MAF , inlet pipe with air temp sensor and bellmouth were aquired for a very good exchange rate!
Just have to get a 70mm throttle body now. That will be my birthday present. Is it September yet?

Ah yes Phill I was meant to report back wasnt I?
Ok keeping in mind it is still running the standard throttle body and has some HUGE manifold vacuum beacuse of the restriction , I have to admit it positively cracks.
It is a bit of a dog until 2700RPM but then takes off hard , you can actually feel yourself being pushed back in the seat.
Lack of low RPM responce has been put down to a few things. The RPM II's power range is from about 2500RPM up , so low end will suffer a bit. Still better then stock but.
The throttle body being too small is also an issue as the motor needs some decent revs on it to suck enough air to fill the runners of the manifold properly. At the moment it simple isnt getting enough air and is a bit turbulent.
The other issue I need to look at is the ignition timing. I have set it at 29 degrees , but the heads were decked 30thou so the compression is up through the roof. The car is pretty unhappy to start when cold so I am going to pull it back to about 25 degrees and start from there. A couple of people believe that I will actually get improved throttle response and more power from retarding the timing somewhat , as my comp is a bit too high. My motor pinged its head off at WSID on 32 degrees so ther ecould be some merit in it. My car has never really liked too much timing.

I cant wait to run it neither Phill. Just have to nut out the timing for once and for all and find the time to do it. A 70mm throttle body falling into my hands would be nice too!
All in all I am pretty happy with it and so far it has been worth the effort.
Thanks need to go to the following members here for the efforts.
TerroristGHIA for doing me a good deal on the heads in the first place and for supplying a lot of gaskets and stuff to put it all together , and also for the ideas on what to look at when I wanted to burn it. The trips out for assistance and moral support was appreciated too.
Yobboford for the offers of help , portable gazeebos and the offeer to drag the busted a*** old heap of s**t over to his garage to work it out when it looked like the rain that was meant to come on the weekend was going to stop me from fixing it in my driveway! The hugs and hanging of s**t to get a laugh out of me made it much less painfull.
Jaysen. Thanks for dropping parts over to my place on short notice on the way to work and for the ideas.
XTT909 Thanks for hooking me up with the AU MAF and associated gear to suit , and for a couple of pointers as far as tuning it to work.
Last but not least Donna. She was cool with me spending the money on my top end instead of putting it towards a wedding , and was quite ok when I had crap all over the place , couldnt stop yelling at it and was spending every waking moment for a week either working stuff out , working on it , or chasing up parts. Also she happily gave up her XR8 for me to get around in to work it all out.
