Digital amplifiers amplify the signal differently and there is pro’s and cons to that.
The con is that they introduce noise and interference especially higher up the frequency chain, although there are now full range digital or hybrid amps that seem to be alleviating some of these problems. . Because of the way they amplify the sound they are much more efficient up to 85 – 90% efficient, compared to 45-55% efficient like say a class A-B (most normal amps) Because they are more efficient, they can be much smaller and also get less hot. So i guess if it is rtwice as efficient (which many are) then from the same size package you can get twice the output.

Yea iaw the last post was in june but i thought if anyone could help me it would be this thread..
Im no good when it comes to car audio and i baught an amp (cheapo crap one) and a kicker sub, the amp's brand is coustic. the previous owners of my car had an amp and sub but wanted to keep them so i just got my amp mount where theirs is ad go B hifi to install it the guy said he would need to run another cable and sis now every now and hen ig et egine noise and the severity changes from time to time. i took it back to JB and he said it was a faulty amp and changed the amp over and it happened again now he says its because i got an old head unit... could an older head unit (JVC dont know the year but its got a cd player and casset player) cause randome engine noise? or this guy just a wank. any help would be awesome cheers

engine noise can be caused by a few things... the most common (but unlikely because yours was"professionally" installed) is that the speaker wires are getting some interferance from the power cable or the amp isnt grounded enough...
will need a little info about your setup first... ill try make it simple for you... you said you have an old head unit that they are blaming... does it have RCA output (red and white plug like tvs/playstations use) you should see these running into the amp Cheers Cam

As FourL6 mentioned about the power wires being crossed with the speaker wires..
Try and trace the speaker wires from your amp and see where abouts in the cabin they run through. If the speaker wires ae running close to where your main power cable is, that could be the reason for you are getting the strange noises. Also this can happen with the RCA cables if they are too close to the main power cable so make sure that they are far away from the power wire too Ideally you would have the speaker wires and RCA's running on the other side of the car from the main power wire just to make sure that they are far enough apart to prevent any interference. Also check that the ground is secure as FourL6 also mentioned |

yea i have read all about magnetic interferance and all and e gound wire poblem... yes i am using ca cables but the odd thing is that it comes and goes and the severity changes from time to time. ill take photos later on today and post them to show u whats goin on.
Thanx for the replies
