Hello ford family
Have an issue where the air con cuts out after about 15 minutes on really hot days (noticed the most). Takes about 10 mins to kick back in. Also just had the engine over heating, then turned air con off and car returned to normal. I am thinking it's an electrical fault? Maybe a fan issue but don't know. Any assistance would be appreciated.. Cheers. |

with the engine overheating you have a prolem of either the the aircon radiator being blocked OR both radiators are blocked so air cannot pass thru. as to cutting out??

Any assistance would be appreciated.. Cheers. Check that the fans are kicking in, not 100% sure on the AU but with the EF, the fans kick in as soon as you turn the AC on. As yours will cool down when you turn the AC off, either the fans are not working or the AC is cutting them out when it is on. Check the fan relays to ensure that they are getting power. With the EF/EL, the fans start just sligtly when you turn the ignition to reds, check if this occurs with the AU. A/C is most likely working normally, with the compressor hi temp switch disengaging the system, and cooling enough to switch on again.
As mentioned, air flow through the radiator and the A/C condensor is lacking, either by fans not operating, or rubbish between the radiator and condensor restricting flow. This occurs whilst the car is driving, yeah ??

Yes it's when I'm driving. The air con works fine until it cuts out. Have checked and the fans don't engage as soon as the air con is turned on.

Do the Fans engage when the car is at running temp without the AC on?

Just went for a 20 min drive with the air con on for about 10 mins. Engine temp gauge was still normal but the fans weren't engaged. Had a new fan unit put in a bout 3 years ago.

I would suggest getting an OBD2 Interface, and using Forscan to see if any A/C Codes are set.
The AU has a pressure sensor in the AC Circuit - pressure spiking too high or low will trigger a fault. It might be ok when you first turn Air on, but pressure changes as the pump moves the regrigerant around Nigel |
