Hi Everyone. Great site!! There is a lot of info here. Keep up the great work.
I just purchased an AU111 Xr6. I have had it for seven days now, and yesterday it started to play up. the letters on the dash no longer show up and the temp gauge now works and then doesn't work. I tried to start in neutral and nothing. Left it for few hours and it starts again?? The letters on the dash are there but will disappear occasionally and the air bag light came on then disappeared a few times. when I was driving yesterday to get it home, it just stalled in driveway. It was like it was stuck in top gear or third when I was going around roundabouts yesterday morning. Very disappointing as I have hardly driven the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to drive it.

would it be a good idea to disconnect the battery for a while?

my airbag light has also just come on recently (and is staying on?)

sounds electrical ,,,

could be the auto going into limp home mode
where its only 2nd gear and reverse

the switch on the side of the autobox has been known to get dirty and cause issues...
no idea about the dash

Thanks guys. I disconnected the battery for an hour. The car starts:) I can't seem to get the plug off on the side of the gearbox to clean it. I'm bit worried about driving it now not knowing if it will die on me again. Thanks for the replies:)

Check battery voltage & charge voltage - with multimeter
Approx. 12 v & holds 9.5 volt cranking for battery & 13.0v- 14.5v - for charging -
under voltage & Overcharge voltage (15.8volts plus can cause multiple faults such as limp mode airbag light cruise control inop etc.)

Maybe clean your battery terminals-with a wire brush and ensure they are properly tightened up...has been know to cause issues in E-Series (not sure about AU)

Had my car at auto electrician today. They found a few error codes and reset them. ( low coolant etc).
They said it may have just been a glitch in the dash. Apparently they have seen a few BA falcons do similar things. Will just have to ride this one out and see how it goes.
Cheers for your replies

Well she done it again!! It is starting to get a tad annoying. I have noticed that both times it has been raining when it starts to play up. Maybee there is water getting into something? Does anyone have an idea on what would base this issue when it is wet?
Cheers

Yep +1 for dodgy terminal connections.
Get yourself a pair of decent heavy duty terminals and piss of the s**t stock items, they never tighten up securely. I was having a few annoying gremlins with mine (eg, weird gauge behavior at times, stereo would reset itself etc) and replacing them solved all the issues.

Thanks for the replies.
I will check all the above this arvo.
When checking the charge rate, do I just fit a multimeter to the battery terminals when the motor is running?
And another silly question, where is the ecu to see if water is getting in?
I have cleaned the terminals but will buy some heavy duty ones and fit them.
Cheers

set multimeter to DC voltage 20 volt scale or higher - connect black lead to negative battery terminal and red lead to positive battery terminal -

ECU is behind left hand kick panel

I fitted new heavy duty terminals today ( $30 !! Didn't expect that lol) and cleaned the earth points near the battery and air box. The earth terminals had green corrosion on the bolts.

I'm waiting for my mate to drop round his multimeter do I can check the charge rate. If it stops raining I will check the ecu for water leaks. By the way, does the panel just pull out to get to the ecu?

Hopefully my gremlin was one of these:):)
Thanks everyone for your help.
I will go for a run tomorrow and see how we go.
Cheers
