Hi everyone! I've had my Au1 Fairmont for around 8-9 years and just today had the opportunity to get the air con up and running as i've moved to Darwin and the weather is quite hot! The auto electrician pumped the gas into the system but for some reason the air con will run for a few minutes then cut out then come back on after a few minutes then it repeats as such. Also it seems to be constantly blowing warm hot air through the vents. The sparky said he would check on it in a few days to see if the system is holding the gas and then look for further issues that could be causing the problem. Any ideas?

its normal for the air con to go on and off , as for the warm air check where direction is first, ie face or face and feet , as the later will blow warm and cold.

its possibly a lazy or sticking sensor, there are 2 sensors on the line from the a/c pump, a small one and a larger one, unplug the larger one and turn the a/c on.. your thermo fans will run full speed but if the a/c now works great the sensor needs replacing, ive had it on a few au's.. im still running my xr8 with it unplugged only problem is the fans are on high while a/c is on, which isn't a bad thing and it logs a fault code..

Hey Troyman, any idea if this advice would apply to an NA Fairlane that has similar symptoms?

the na has a high low pressure switch on the tx valve near the firewall, you can bypass this by bridging the 2 wires together to test it, but if it is actually low on gas doing this for long periods may cause your a/c pump to fail ..

g'day Troyman I finally picked up a sensor but... stupid question...if I loosen the sensor it has now will it leak gas? i.e. would I then need to get the system re-gassed or is it somehow isolated?

thanks for your help, sorry about the noob question...

underneath the sensor there is a schrader valve so only a small amount of gas can escape while the sensor is being un screwed..
