Can anyone tell me how the economy switch functions? In my EL I'm pretty sure its pin 27 (grey/black) wire, but I'm not 100% sure how the wire operates, and I don't have a multimeter. I'm assuming that when economy is selected, the switch is closed? Or is it the other way around? Maybe its a different wire altogether?

I'm pretty sure from EA-ED that the switch was a normal/power switch, and that in the EF-EL it changed to an economy/normal, but which one is operating when the switch is closed?

Yeah I know thats why I said it was norm/pwr compared to econ/norm for the EFs and ELs. I'm (hopefully) using it to trigger a relay. Ideally it will be that the circuit is closed when the car is in econ mode, but if its the other way round I can just flip the wiring on the relay. Thats why I wanted to find out which was which, so that I know when the relay is being triggered, in econ or normal (power) mode

It's definitely on the to-do list to pick one up.

Yeah well thats what I thought, but wasn't 100% sure. I think I remember reading that in the EA-ED that power mode was the closed switch, but couldnt remember if it was the same for the ELs, with the switching of the switch's sides etc. But the wiring diagram I have from the workshop manual definitely has economy switch following a grey/black wire to pin 27.

And yeah I thought I'd have more luck with this specific question in the elec section. I am thinking the potentiometer would definitely be worth it as well. For the 5 minutes of testing I had with the 18Ohm, it seemed way too firm of a shift

Awesome, so do you know if it is actually pin 27, 12V on (econ) and nothing off?
