Are you using standard wattage globes?

It's the circuit breaker cutting in and out. It is designed to do this when there is too much power being drawn by the lights.
It's a steel thing under the coolant reservoir with a purple and yellow wire going to it from memory.

As long as they are factory wattage they should be fine.

I always say you get what you pay for when it comes to lights.
Try to always buy name brand globes (Osram, Narva, Philips).
The best ones I found were the standard 'plus 50' globes.
The white ones look great but aren't actually as bright as the standard colour globes.

I don't remember, but I think they're both 55 watt.
It should say it on the headlight.

Im running standard globes and mine were doing this but used to cut out all headlights and you see nothing but dark lol  turned out it was the circuit breaker playing funny buggers, changed it for a new one and never had a drama since :P

Sorry mate, didnt realise you replied, the circuit breaker is located under the header tank and has a purple and a yellow wire running to it, it may be under a plastic cover there depending on who has got to it before you bought the car,

possibly a faulty headlight relay (near battery) or check for wiring shorting when you brake

did you change the circuit breaker with a NEW one - did you change the Hi beam relay ?

check by switching hi beam on-engine running and leaving on 10-15 min to see if overload is causing fault - after that start moving harness around under bonnett and under steering column near switch plugs and fuse box while watching for flicker or lights going out - seems odd to come back on by applying brake -check that charge is approx 14.5volts with a multimeter with revs above idle ?

relays should be similar to attachment but I will stand corrected on this !
