Hi...have problem with engine starting, sometimes it will crank over, sometimes it will not, have to sit in car with key on full (without cranking) until striker buttons go down then up, this takes some 30 min then the engine will crank over, never know when I have to do this, as sometimes it will start then other times it will not, could be fuel pump, or key barrel, or something else...any ideas whats going on so I can fix it...Redroo

Your name has AU in it and your ID says ED?

Assuming ED... Sounds like a spastic smartlock module to tell you the truth... The orange (red) module over the top of the handbrake held in with 2 screws... I'd try swapping that out... Sounds like something has gone massively amiss inside it...

Cheers,
Tim

Had the same problem with mine but I dont have smart lock but I changed the coil and mounted the coil in a cooler spot as fords are prone for the coil not working. Its mostly because they will be cold then suddenly heat up which damages the internals of it. Id try that then smartlock.

The coils aren't so much phased by the heat... All the ones I've seen that have failed (including my own) failed because the "hang" off the side of the block... Under the mounting brackets they get a hairline crack (lot of weight on not much epoxy)... They absorb moisture and then short out internally... All I did to fit mine was make a bracket for the side of the block so it sat upright and didn't hang... Even on a 45 degree day here I never had a problem...

Besides... Old mate it wont crank... Not that it has no spark... He has to wait for the smartlock to relearn (30 mins) before it will crank... Sounds more like a smartlock module problem to me...

Now back to the OP... Have you checked the computer for codes? Proved it has fuel pressure and flow? And proved spark is good?

Cheers,
Tim
