Hey Guys,
So I'm looking for your expertise to guide me about the best way to do this.
My car is the Ford Falcon 2001 AUIII, and it currently only has one Cigarette port.
I actually need two more ( but I can use a splitter to split that ).
I've tried using the one I have in the car in a three way splitter, but it's caused more frustration that been useful because I have an iPod dock which is rather big and chunky and doesn't sit well in the three way splitter.

I was wondering if you guys would know the best way to install another one via the engine/or battery, and how to install it in the actual car.
I'm looking at something like the photo attached.
I haven't been able to find anything online on how to install it,
so what would be the direct steps on installing it?
Would I wire it up directly to the battery?

All tips would be appreciated guys!

You could run it off the battery but I see that causing problems if you leave something plugged in.

Could somehow hook up an electronic switch to the ignition so it's the same as the factory lighter.

Just run it off the current cig lighter power feed.

Wouldn't that blow the fuse? and/or burn out the wiring.

It's no different to using the 3 port extensions.
Hell, I'm running the Prem sound amp off my cig lighter feed. Just run an inline fuse.

If you´re going to do it, do it correctly. Get a new power feed from either the battery or the main input into the fuse box (easiest to remove the fuse box to get to the wiring at the back of it). Run a fresh feed off a suitable power feed (depending as to whether you want a permanent power source of something to run off the accessories relay. Devices that connect to the cigarette lighter connection can draw up to 10A, so make sure that the circuit that you choose to splice into can handle the extra 10A draw.

Hi,

Have a look at the power you will be drawing, an Ipad wont take much. Compare that to the power a lighter uses. If you run another 2 from the original lighter, the wiring will be fine. If you did draw too much the fuse will blow. And the fuse will be in the right place, not hidden.

I would connect to the existing port, as it is switched and protected by a heavy duty fuse.
