Hi All,

I have seen lots of posts about door actuators but I can't find any that answer my question so hopefully someone can help.

When locking the car (key or remote) all doors lock accept for the drivers side rear door.
I have opened the actuator and there are no broken parts. The problem appears to be that when the lock/unlock button is pressed the motor doesn't move the actuator sufficiently to move the lever. It moves say 5 mm in each direction rather than the 1cm required.

Is this likely to be that the motor is not receiving enough power or for a long enough time, or is it the motor? I presume the direction of travel depends on the polarity that is connected to the motor? Unfortunately I am away for the weekend and while I have basic tools I don't have my multimeter so can't check how long the voltage is applied or what the voltage is.

Many thanks,

Bec

Assume you're talking about the AU onwards style door actuators?

The motors are known to go weak over time and require replacement as well... I'd try that first... Usually there is a kit on ebay, has the gears, springs and motor...

Cheers,
Tim

You can pick up just the motors themselves from the US for about $10 shipped as well.

Very, very common motor. In fords, Toyotas, Holdens etc.

Falcons arent to bad : Actuators (used) are a reasonable price. My Ford Escape required a replacement after ford quoted >$300 for one.

Had to wait 2 weeks - but its now perfect

Thank you both, I have ordered the kit and I will replace the motor as the first step. Fingers crossed it fixes all my problems. I have learnt a lot about the workings of my door today!
