sorry for the late reply ive been away on holidays. anyway back to my question ive replace everything that you usually think of replacing to fix a delay in response to accelerating to pick up speed when cruising. just wondering would the knock sensor play a part in this? car has had a scan on it and everything come back all clear.

Knock sensor shouldn't cause any problems like that - easy way to test it is to unplug it, then see if it is fixed, if it is, it's the knock sensor, but I doubt it'll make any difference, I'd be looking more towards fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, leads, plugs, even cap and rotor, beyond that, I'd be going towards TPS, MAP Sensor, Oxy Sensor, and I'd also check the ignition timing, and if it's still no good, I'd even check the valve timing, you'd be surprised, seen that happen before, if the timing chain has stretched. Also check the obvious like compression and health of the motor and stuff.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what you get.
