Rear left side door makes funny noise and fails to open when remote key is pressed to unlock doors.

Anyone know what might be the problem and how to fix?

Thanks

I would be looking at the actuator.

Yep, actuator is stuffed.

Apart from AU2, are there any other models that are identical or similar that can be used without too much modifications?

IIRC AU/BA are identical they both have the rounded corner squareish white plug, BF were the same also except for they used a rectangular grey plug. there were adapter looms available from ford to go from the white plug to the grey plug
