Hi I'm sort of new to Ford mods. Not sure if I'm posting in the right section but I'm really curious as to how I would go about rigging up my twin thermo fans to always come on once my car is running ?? Also wondering if it would cause any issues at driving speeds ?

How ya going bud and welcome I have a eb with an el motor I'm running duel thermos off a switch in the car as I don't realy need them on all the time car actualy runs to cold it's only when I do skids or in heavy traffic I hit the switch to turn them so that could be an idear outher wise I think there's a little module u can buy not sure what it's called or were to buy it but it has a tempreture sensor that dangles in the engine bay and when it sences the engine bays to hot it will automatically switch them but honestly I love the switch

Easy. Wire your fan RELAY to a wire that has +12v when ignition is on.

OR

If you want to do it PROPERLY, get this http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Davies-Craig-Pty-Ltd-Thermal-Switch-Relay-0404-12V.aspx?pid=6609#Description

It's a thermatic fan relay kit. This will automatically turn the fans on and off according to the temp of the cooling system.

Yeah I have an EB II Fairmont Ghia wagon with el tickford motor and ecu as well. And it normally runs stupid cold but lately its decided to get hot when the car is sitting still. Tamps go up around 3/4 which is bad lol. I end up having to turn my aircon on to cool it down.. and sweet I'll try the relay idea :) any idea where the fan relay would be located xD as its an EB with el motor and had all the stuff in it when I bought it

Just run your own relay

I've found there's three relays that are inline with the fans :/. So how would I go about doing this.. I'm guessing one relay does one fan. But the fans both have high low settings ?? I want em to be running on high as soon as the cars running.

Clearly you have a problem which would be better off being fixed rather than masked!!

Having your fan running constantly is a waste of energy and is sort of like taking Panadol for the rest of your life rather than having the tumour removed!!!

I suggest servicing your radiator as your symptoms suggest it is partially blocked............

^^^ What he said. If your car is constantly overheating, there must be some underlying problem that should be fixed, especially with summer coming up. I would be reverse flushing the rad and checking the thermostat. What is the condition of the cap? If it isn't holding pressure, it can reduce the efficiency of your cooling system ie. cause an overheating condition.

Its not so much an over heating problem. Its getting around half temp which makes me uncomfortable because the car has never ran up that high its always below the N. Of normal... and for wasting energy I have a fairly large stereo with multiple batteries so using energy isn't an issue as it can't possibly draw a noticeable amount with the way I've got thing setup. Today the car was good. I think I may have knocked the plug loose or something when I was replacing my headlights last week. Which in turn prevented the thermo fans from runnig at low speed and only allowing high speed of one fan when aircon was on. But yeh I will be looking into a radiator issue as well it seems to be leaking a bit. And the cap holds pressure over night lol dunno if that's bad or not :/?

As long as it doesn't go over halfway, it should be fine.

Yeah, check your fan electrical connections if it is not running at half speed.

I also had an issue regarding fans and overheating, turned out one of them wasnt turning on which ended up being a relay issue. it was only the passenger one which wasnt working and because thats where the hot coolant flows into the radiator the temperatures were getting up there. i'd try this stuff here, and if you get code 778, ill have a look and see which relay i changed to fix it.

if nothing else, it might be useful to see if there are any other codes in the system!

EDIT: whoops didn't read that it was an EB with an EL engine. It's possible that the same (or similar) method may still work but id say the codes at the least would be different. Pins might be the same. BenJ would be the one to ask about anything EB
