OK guys, My sincere apologies.. I have tried not to bother anyone much on here and figure as much out myself as i can but this one has me a bit stumped. I'm close to getting my NF Fairlane on the road.. It's only taken me about a year and a half. There will be a thread soon to show what iv been doing as i go soon I'm sure. Anyway..
My drivers side window was not working since i purchased the car..I was sure it was going to be the reg but i have since unplugged the reg and attached it straight to the battery.. and the reg does go up and down fine. First i wiggled the wires, then I got my multi meter and stuck it in the pins that come from the switch or bem? and watched as i pressed the switch.. a reading of 11.53 v -11.54 v would come up as i pressed the button. Is that right or should that be 12v? I thought maybe its the switch but I'm guessing that would give me no reading at all right? It also may be worth mentioning the BEM itself has a tiny burn mark on it.. I had investigated it when i thought it was causing another issue which turned out to be clock spring. Perhaps this is what that is affecting? |

maybe clean the switch? ... with the yellow peril [car] it sometimes plays up with a window & it's always the switch

Yeah I might just do that to rule it out. I always thought if the switch
Was bad it would be intermittently playing up. But then I don't know Much history of the car. Except that I saved it from abuse. Gives me a chance to look at cracked solder anyway. Can anyone tell me how much of a role does the BEM play in windows? |

No cracked solder from what i can see, Switches are relatively clean. Will get a can of electrical cleaner tomorrow and have a go regardless..
Also not sure if its related.. Forgot to mention the middle button for locking the doors does not work either.. |

Middle button does not lock the doors, it locks our the rear window switches. Door lock button is on the dash, left side of the steering wheel just above where your knee would be.

 that's right.. Just shows you how long its been stored away and iv been unable to drive it. I got some contact cleaner today so ill have a go at that regardless. Do you really believe the switch is stuffed though when i can still get a voltage reading from the plug? Not that i really doubt you SWC, You've been notorious for having all the right answers. |

But iv just brought the replacement switch anyway as I'm 90% sure SWC is spot on about the switch being dead. Cleaning it certainly didn't work. Will get back to you when it arrives. |

Was it the switch? If not it's likely the silver 30a fuse in the fuse box

Fuse box in car, but if other 3 work this is not your culprit. Drivers switch can go into lockout mode if it has been depressed for too long. Very unlikely to be anything other than faulty drivers switch.

Never knew about the lockout thing.. There you go.. I learned something.
Installed new switch. Works a treat now. Thanks guys |

Hello,
Now it is fixed, you can now pull apart the old switch and clean it. Some of the contacts will be black. Clean this off and it should be fine. I use alcohol wipes for such things. ( also good for getting leeches off ) You can then have a spare ready for next time. The drivers door will get the most use, and typically the mech. will work harder to drive the window up in the rubber channel as they age. This puts more load on the motor, it takes more current and the contacts get burnt. When you lube the channel you can hear the difference it makes right away.
