Dropped a 5.0 into the van yesterday so here's some pics....

Image

I'm using AU EECV on an E-series engine so here's the encoder wheel(same as we did in the 351W into XE) that we made for the stock type balancer.

Image

This engine has a KC castings timing cover which has the bosses for the crank sensor. The holes were not fully tapped so I had to run a bottoming tap through them.

So I get to keep my E-series front dress and underdrives too!

Next thing is the coil bracket does not clear the pwr steer barcket so it needs to be reshaped to look like this...

Image

To fit like this...ignore the original coil, I hadn't removed it yet.

Image

Top hose fits perfectly but I need to make a new bracket for the bottom hose intermediate pipe and the hose from the radiator needs to be larger.

Image
Image

Heater pipes factory position...E-series hoses and valve go straight on but will need to make a T-piece to keep the header tank in the stock location.

Looks good, nothing compared to the V10 though.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of specs is the 5.0l running, ignition looks to be AUish and yet it runs a HO manifold?

Here you can see the power steer hose coming up the shock tower. It's the stock NF fairlane one but the other end has been reshaped. The pwr steer pump is the one I had on my 351 with the shortened, plugged neck and remote resevoir so I have room to get the inlet pipe in. Stock shorty headers will just fit.

Image

Similar, but not quite so bad as 351, compressor clearance issues. You can't really see but there is about a 3mm gap.
It helps if you grind off unnecessary lumps and bumps on the back of the compressor but I will also massage the tower a smidge.

Image

Right hand header...no wuckers!

Image

Looks like this EB A/C hose will do the trick but I'll need to do some custom pipe work to mate it with the RX/dryer out front. Not much clearance from the header tank for an inlet tube but I will likely remove the EGR spacer to set the t-body back a little further anyway. I'll make a bracket to take the factory throttle cable bracket.

It's stock 180k old NF Fairlane schnoods. Just AU management and AU 65mm t-body. Doesn't look so full as with the V10 sure fits easy though :D Anyone got a stock Y-pipe with cats for sale? Also need a V8 BTR or just a V8 valve body too?

Well done Pete, we will make sure this is never lost, if you keep posting like this it will make it easy to make a doco out of it.

Pete what would the going price be on one of those encoder wheels if you sold them?

Thanks macca,3x,

I'll ask Tone how much he would charge. You need to machine a small step on the balancer for a press fit so he would probably want to do that to keep the control of the quality. Likely it would be a package deal of a new balancer fitted with the wheel.

I'll check the for sale section 3X.

Good work Pete, Go the XG!!!
I can tell this will be a very interesting read, i'll be sure to keep watch.

Will you be using EGR still?

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

No, although I could probably turn the EGR strategy on.
I was only using the EGR spacer as a means of holding the throttle cable bracket. I just finished boring it out to 66mm too
I'll probably make a stainless plate that sandwiches between the t-body and intake instead.

Pete.

Quick one for you Pete, how hard (expensive) is it to machine up the encoder wheel?

I'm thinking about options should I ever do a neutral balance engine for the TE. Romac and Powerbond aren't interested in making a balancer to suit.

Ok for an Encoder wheel it would be about $380 including machining of the balancer and he will only machine a new balancer so don't ask him to do an old one.

Don't worry Frank, the V10 will have it's day 8-)

Definitely would only supply a brand new balancer!

Thanks for that Pete.
