man this pings me off. my lovely BA mont that i've had 3 weeks has both been run into by some old f@rt in the street, and now the fuel tank has started leaking gold in the liquid form.
took it to ford today, they say something hit it in the past (previous owner), and according to ford, some dodgy mechanic has used araldtite or the like to try and repair it. or at least thats what they say, but they are the type that will try anything to get around a warranty job.
It seems to be leaking near or around where the filler pipe enters the tank.
What do you think this'll cost me to fix, and do you think it's worth a second opinion?

If the car was repaired correctly by insurance, it should have a warranty on the repair, take it back, jump up and down get it fixed by the repairer/insurer.

First BA tank I have heard of cracking for the record.

Must have been a fair smack to crack it.
I'm pretty sure the ADR's on fuel tank design require they take a certain amount of force, and I imagine it wouldn't be an insignificant amount...

I think they're having a lend of me because from what i saw looking under it while it was on the hoist, there are no visible dents anywhere under the car, and what it's leaking from is a white plastic thingy where the hose joins in. My guess is an o ring where the hose joins into the tank is faulty, but they want to flog more money off me. (i have no faith in my local ford dealer, they have stuffed so many of my friends around but the next closest one is 2 hours away and i can't very well drive 2 hours with fuel pouring out under the car)

oh and dellboy, the crash is only minor damage to the passenger door (completely unrelated issues)

Oh ok fair enough on the accident side of things.

Try the dealer principle, see if they will come to the party, they do nto always know service are stuffing a customer around till they get told about it.

Oh okay.
Bastards obviously want to try and get you to pay for a whole new tank!
Chances are someone didn't do there job on the production line, and the O-Ring got pinched in a thread or something.

shouldn't it just drop down? don't see any logical reason why it would take longer..

well considerign the BA tank is under the rear seats and not under the boot floor....
under the ba tank is the whole irs and wheels etc all that has to come out to get to the tank, then the tank comes out

fair enough, it's just that looking at it from underneath, it seems it should just move forward, down and out. But i don't know much about it all.
Seeing i've had the car 3 weeks, do you thing the stat. warranty that comes with buying a car from a dealer?
I'm just petrifyed of what this is going to cost. specially seeing i've only just started paying the thing off.

gotta drop the irs if im not mistaken.
my uncle is a panel beater, and he's had to take plenty of them out to repair damage.
Araldite, who would use that?
I would ring the previous owner and confirm what happened.

yes disco, you appear to be spot on. mechanic told me the entire rear suspension and differential needs to be pulled out to free the tank.
his take on the what ford said was:
- this car should not have left their sight without the leak being re-gummed up with araldtite (what he did when he got the car) as a car pissing fuel out all over the place it asking for trouble.
- the fact that someone glued it up is neither here not there. the problem is most definately a warranty issue.
- If this bunch got off their rectums for 5 seconds and rung their head office about the problem as my friend did, they would have found that southern cross ford in toowoomba currently has several ba's on the floor with the back ends pulled out of them and the fuel tank undergoing the same repairs as mine needs.
I would like to know who the idiot who decided it was a good idea to mount the fuel tank somewhere it can't be removed from without ford service oafs - who wear slip on T-Boots cos they can't tie laces - attacking my $24000 motor vehicle to such an extent that it has no rear wheels, and then believe that they can put it back together. I don't want to know what i'm gonna be left with after all this. but the car will never be the same....
