This may sound pretty simple, but I have tried and cannot seem to get the screw undone to get the cap off. Do I need to drop the tank or is there an easier way?

i think its pretty fragile but i got mine off just by tapping it with a screwdriver and a hammer
like go around it tapping it gently to loosen it up then u should be able to get it moving okay and just take it off.. |

I used a pair of vice grips on one of the fins, and just tap it around with a mallet slowly and it eventually came loose.

dont use vice grips there to good to be used like that grab your self a flat bottom Centerpunch

make sure when you put everything back together, you get yourself a new over priced O-ring from Ford. If you can get one the same size from somewhere else for cheaper then I say that is a better option.

there are some ingenious ideas on this page that will help replace the Fuel pump on the Falc over the weekend. thankyou all for your input.
