Hey guys, i have an ef falcon futura and it still has original ecu im guessing as ive never noticed any difference. I am looking at buying a new ecu off a guy with the catch code 5DCA. It was advertised as being able to increase my perfomance a little from stock falcon. Is this true and if so will i be able to plug it straight in and off i go or will there be more to it, like new diff etc????

thanks in advance for any help. Paul

The catch code you've mentioned is for an EF Series II Fairmont Ghia (Tickford I6HP - 4 Speed Auto). Without the XR6 fuel regulator, cam & cylinder head that goes with the ECU, I doubt you'll notice much difference in performance. As you already have an EF, it will plug in OK.

Have you go any other engine mods?

Just my opinion, but I'd look at getting extractors & a better cam first. Many people are opting for J3 chips as they can be tuned to suit your engine.

so these j3 chips, are they the ones on ebay and are they hard to tune with?

I've seen TI Performance advertising their J3s & tuners on eBay. If you have the time to read up on how to tune them, then you could probably do it yourself. But to do it properly, I reckon it needs to go on a dyno and have the air-fuel ratio tested through the rev range.

I considered tuning my J3 chip, but decided to leave it to someone who has some experience with Ford E-Series.
