Does anyone know any factual information on how the ECU treats the knock sensor signal?

I'd been playing with my turd on 4 wheels on the dyno and the place that gives maximum power on the dyno is when I can hear pinging. So I back it off about two degrees from the point of where I cannot hear any audiable pinging.

I'm down to 127rwkw from 132 when I can barely hear pinging. Its a linear increase/decrease on the power curve as you rotate the dizzy. Leaving it at the factory 10 deg btdc gives about 120rwkw on lpg.

Now, sometimes while driving it, it severely loses power, approximately 30% or so, about 2500RPM upwards. Back off the throttle, hit the clutch and repeat process and it wont happen again for another week or two.l

What I want to know is, does it use input from the knock sensor to retard the timing severely and how does the ECU treat the input?

Please only info if you know the details.

As far as I can remember the ECU retards the ignition in 5deg blocks until the knock sensor is normal and then advances the ign in 5 deg blocks till the knock sensor changes. This happens at a very rapid rate so the ign is at it optimum most of the time.
Hope this helps.

well i dont know about fords ecus. but from what i have learnt from bmw is that it depends on how server the knock was to how much it retards the timing, and it even knows what cyl it was so only retards the cyl that is pining. but it adjusts in .5 deg at a time.

but bmw are going away from knock sensors and going to ironic sensors.

I'm pretty sure its not 5* blocks

I think its 1/2* per PIP signal.
