Few days ago my car stopped running twice during a hot day. After a couple of hours the fault would dissappear so was hard to diagnose a partial fault. Today while on the highway it died completely. Traced the problem to the fuel pump, was priming on ignition but not actually pumping fuel. Now the strange part, when removing the fuel lines off the pump the return line started pouring fuel from the tank, not a little bit but alot as if the tank was pressurised. Anyone solve the riddle of why?

was the tank pressurised?
usually take the cap off before disconnecting the fuel lines to get rid of the pressure
its quite normal, on a hot day, for that to happen
