I have a mate with a VY SS commodore and he was telling me about getting his ecu re flashed to a mafless tune producing 300fwkw.
Is it the same process or will i need some piggy back system ect. Can somone please shed a little light on this matter.

is that 300 F@@K Wit KW's or 300 Front Wheel KW's? I think he got ripped off! ...lol

That is flywheel kw... not fw kw... btw my car is a 5.0 litre V8. The SS is a 5.7 litre V8... so maybe 300kw to ask from a 5.0 litre maybe too much... im not sure
I just want to know about a mafless tune, i know the maf sensor is way too restricted, and if i could get rid of this, it would be good... Thanks

With the gen 3's its not just the removal of the MAF that gets the extra power. Its the whole tune and the removal of the torque limiting program features.
Doubt removal of the maf will make much difference to a 5.0. The biggest restriction is the HO manifold. Would'nt waste my money on a tune like that without changing the manifold & heads first.

Mafless tune is an LS1 thing - cant get them for the 302's

You can tune the 302's mafless, just you can't do it with a stock ECU so far.
But as said, there's not that much to be gained from it. It might be a restriction, but have a look at the stock manifold and stock extractors.. Cheers

i'm running microtech and mafless. still have stock manifold and ported e7's. also has zorst and stage 3 cam and puts out a touch over 158rwkw. a 302 with same mods and maf i would think would be a bit less than that but how much i'm not sure. a stock ecu would struggle with the cam so would need chipping anyway and power would end up close. i still reckon i'd be in front.

so what if one was sick of replacing mafs that keep s**t themselves and just hate Maf's in general (me)?
Can I go mafless with an autronic / haltech and stomp on the numerous non working Mafs that caused my car to run lean at high rpm? I really want to throw one at the person who invented the maf's head.... |

Would be easier and cheaper to find the reason why your MAFs keep s**t themselves than it is to fit an aftermarket ecu. Do you run an aftermarket filter - the oil in them can stuff mafs and some filters can disrupt the airflow causing them to give false readings. Checked the voltage and earth?
But to answer your questions - yes. Any aftermarket ECU will allow you to replace your MAF with a MAP.

I've had heard of someone using the std EEC to tune their engine without MAF using N Alpha....cant remember who it was though.
Not exactly the best way to tune a street engine for part throttle driveability. There are some early Mustangs and F trucks whose EEC strategys used a MAP for load sensing. No reason you couldn't get a hold of one of these EEC's from the States and use it on your 5.0L Falcon...would need a custom tune though I suppose. Would be much cheaper and easier to just use the most appropriate MAF for your application. There is a very good selection of OEM Ford MAF's to choose from. |

Cleaning the MAF wires cant hurt - that is unless you are heavy handed. Bacially take the electronics out and spray the wires with electronic contact cleaner. Just be careful and dont use any cleaning fluids that will leave a residue (like degreaser, wd40 etc).
Dirty mafs are a relatively common problem and there are heaps of info on the net as well (for example - http://www.stangnet.com/Tech-Articles/C ... ensor.html)
