I agree with you . i have sold EB V8 manual conversions and they have been bolt in and drive away. no stuffing around with ECU,s at all.

This is from the above link, a quote from the Ford Factory manual:

Default Engine Operating Modes
7B:Reverse Gear Indication
Engine Controller, EEC-IV will assume torque cut off mode in all gears. However when the calculated engine-to-road speed ratio is outside the range of the reverse gear, toque cut off is ignored. If a fault is undetected, a reduction in power may be percived in lower forward gears and shifts may be firm.

Obviously firm shifts wont be applicable for a manual conversion but the torque reduction would be an issue. I'm not saying it's not "plug and play", just saying it may not work to its full potential. Not helped by the fact EEC has no error code to flag this fault as a problem.

XR8 dismantler - have you done a conversion on a V8 ef? Interested to hear if you noticed the thermo fans acting strangely...

I promise..... I will never die.

Well I've just finished the conversion and the ECU bit was a piece of cake. Bought all the resistors from d**k Smith and soldered them in. The car accelerates like nothing before. Very strong off the mark and through the gears. Feels heaps more snappier now at low revs(possibly due to the flywheel and the underdrives). Absolutely no dramas with the electronics, but the same cant be said about the bellhousing, clutch fork pivot etc. Bodgy dellows :x
Overall, this is the best mod that I've done. There cant be too many ED Fairmont wagons around with a V8 5 speed.

Interested in a fair go for the Hunter-New England area of NSW?

it is possible to plug an automatic inhibitor switch in, and set it to (D) (there are 2 plugs, one controls car not starting in gear, the other sends signal to auto ecu of what gear it is in). If u only plug in the 2nd one, and set it to be in D all the time, and hunting will stop. Have done this at work many times now...
