hi running both fuel and ignition, got a nice idle, running a little rich as wideband isn't connected yet. just wondering, what ignition advance with rpm are you using as a guide?

i'm idling nicely under load with an advance of 16 deg, off load when i give it some revvs its good but it starts to knock at ~1500rpm and advance of 23 deg, is that too advanced? thanks

It could be. Or it's running lean at that point.

awesome, i'll try and import that data somehow and see how it goes.

i put connectors on the fuel and the ignition so i can switch between stock ecu and the MS2e easily so i can use stock while its untuned. also i'm going to use one output from the lc-1 to connect to the stock ecu emulating a narrow band and then have the other output going to the ms2e and the gauge

dont worry about the stock ecu, just let the MS do its thing.
use the LC-1 and the MS to get the fuel map close, use the timing map above, take a few deg out of the whole map to be safe and tune the fuel map for drivability. Once youve got that sussed, put it on a dyno to do all the top load points.
Then you can set your closed loop o2 stuff and enjoy the benefits :o

if your concerned about reliability, just order another kit and keep a spare :)

i got a new issue now too, the stock ecu appears to switch the biasing resistor for the intake manifold aswell! so i guess i'll have to mount a new air temp sensor somehow, any suggestions?

the megasquirt is pornography for nerds! its so exciting when you've tweeked those VR resistors and are getting perfect sync!

hay guys, made heaps of progress. As far as i am aware, i am the only person to have a MS2e running multiple coils on an AUIIIXR6 engine in an AUI.

The autotune has been awesome, arranged the fuel map so it was even 5.5psi and 400rpm steps in the tuning tables (although since it appears to only accept whole numbers its automatically made it 5 and 6 psi steps) Got a fairly decent rough map, and fairly good ego control. The reason for even steps is that when i configure the configure.ini file for autotune i can have an even area each vertex so that there is a tiny bit of deadband between vertices.

The autotune has been working a dream, i started off with large lumpyness (10) but i've brought that down to about 4 now. My technique is i drive around for a bit and let the autotune do its thing, when i stop at my location i then smooth out the table and tweak the configure.ini file and ego feedback.

I've been working my way through the gears and rpm ranges up hill and down hill. Today i nearly got it to wide open throttle so about 180kph in top gear. Everything is running smooth as

My AFR is currently set to 14.7 all the way across the board.

i'm using the ignition timing map provided by coupe66, its been modded a bit, my advance around 400 rpm is 24ish drops off a bit then makes its way up to 44deg around 25psi @ 5000rpm. This seems really high, but i haven't actually tested the base timing with a timing light, so its possible that the advance at 400 is only really 18deg or something. Since the base timing is essentially an offset anyway, i can do that later and scale my map later on.

Its running really really smooth. I've been trying to get the acceleration enrichment set up right but its been driving me mad. There seems to be a bit of a lag when opening the throttle quickly so it chokes up a little bit then goes rich. I'll have to play around with it a bit. Also i have terrible noise on my barometric pressure when accelerating so it enriches then leans (when using mapdot), enriches then leans!! i might try partially clamping the hose and see if that helps to try and dampen the signal, that will assist in the autotune aswell i think (since it will hang around a bit longer instead of jumping around).

although i got my map nicely tuned i'm going to spread things out a bit evenly since i've noticed that everything isn't 5.5 as intended, also around my area the barometric pressure is actually 101.7kpa or something and my table only goes to 100, so i'll go above 100 a bit.

I WOULD RECOMMEND!!:
Do not downgrade your ignition to a single coil with a dizzy!!
Do not use an EDIS pack!!
-These options are obsolete and EDIS are expensive
DO update your MSII firmware to MSIIe
DO use the latest Megatune 2.25 (or later)
DO buy additional coil drivers (i have two spare which i can sell cheaper locally than DIYautotune)
DO buy an LC-1
DO ask for help, i'll be glad to share my experiance with others. I'll probably write a guide which i will be sending to DIYautotune soon so that other AU'ers can do the same

Thanks guys!!!

Great work dude. I've built my MS but am yet to run an engine on it. I'm still digging up specs on the sensors i have to see if they will work, mostly denso stuff as the intake setup is off a jap domestic market suzuki, being retrofit to my mighty boy with F8b.

Cheers

I know this thread is just about dead, but i'd just like to chime in as this thread has been a HUGE help in installing a Megasquirt into my AU (see sig), especially 66 coupe who has posted a LOT of informative stuff (not just in this thread either :D) and to bradders for his posts and for giving me a copy of his tune.

Top stuff!

Thanks Tom, It was my pleasure, I would like to jump start the thread maybe when i'm back in perth, a lot of details and photos haven't been included. Your input would help also.

I think you've given me a bit of a kick-start, i'm going to look into the AU MAF sensor and see if i can get it to work with the megasquirt, I think that'll make a big difference.

Have you started tuning yet?

Would you mind if i posted my response to your questions in the thread? others might find it useful?

No worries, glad to hear i've got the bug going again!. Yes, I have started tuning (spark and idle only at the moment), I want to get these setup pretty well so i'm happy with it before I hook up the fuel and start tuning that - I don't suffer from the leaning out problems you've been describing as my car is LPG so a separate ECU controls the fuel (that right, I currently have 3 separate ECU's :D).

I tried your spark map initially and got some epic backfires (ripping some gaping holes in the flexible part of the intake :O) so I went to TI performance and translated some of their AU spark maps over to the squirt. However, I now believe my backfires were completely unrelated to your map (other settings were to blame, mainly cranking advance) so I am hoping to give that another go tomorrow. (Your tune has been a great help and I thank you again, its a shame so much has changed from MS2 to MS3 - one thing in particular is the idle... the fully open duty cycles are reversed, IE: you have inverted idle and I have normal :O Don't ask how many stalls it took to realise this :D).

Feel free to post any responses, I feel the more information the better as there is precious little for megasquirt installation in a falcon. I'm curious as to what you hope to achieve by using the MAF? Wouldn't that just add an intake restriction? To my understanding using MAP while less accurate, poses no restriction so is good for power (plus any innacuracy is taken care of by EGO feedback).

Hey bradders, I think i've been experiencing the "leaning out" issue you've been describing. The stock ecu will put out a cranking pulse but no running pulse - so I can start, and *if* the gas catches before it stalls (which it usually does) i'm right but the ecu will NOT run the engine. I've checked this, it will start up fine, rev to about 1500rpm or so (usual flare at startup) then just die - throttle does nothing. I've even tried changing from gas to petrol at 2000rpm+ and same result.

So anyone looking at megasquirting an EEC-V you will unfortunately have to take control of both spark and fuel at the same time (unless you put some dummy coils or something in there). Anyway, as per my worklog i've installed the injectors on the Megasquirt and its working fairly well (lots of tuning/optimising to go). I can HIGHLY recommend registering TunerStudio, as I have found the autotune to be quite good (I want to get my map dialed in as close as possible before fiddling myself).

Anyway, thats my 2c.

s**t backfiring isn't good, when i started i had something similar as i mixed up the coils

I think the solenoid was routed from the start, so thats why the idle settings wouldn't make sense

intuitively it makes sense to use a maf since its a direct measurement not an inferred one
