I own a 97 EL fairmont and the odometer went from 230k to 560k overnight . Am I the only one as the ford dealer said or is there others out there? Also does anyone have a fix?

This is new to me too? Anyone else.

Could your Ford dealer reset it for you?

The ford dealer said they could wind it forward but not backwards( what a load of s**t). They also said it would more than likely happen again and the only fix is for me to spend $600 on a new odometer to fix their f**k.

I do not have a fix, but I have a full 1) EL Fairmont instrument cluster with approx 180000Ks for $170 via registered post
2) EF Fairmont instrument cluster with approx 160000Ks, EF is black background with white lettering on gauges for $170 via registered post
3) Wreckers will have, make sure it has all gauges evidently XR and Fairmont (no Tickford wings) are same clusters

Yeah i think a mate of mine might know someone to change the display back to what it was. I mean, i couldn't care about what it reads, i know what its done, but if i ever were to sell it, it looks shocking!
I wouldn't want to get it changed, for it to happen again straight away.

there was an early card for the NGS (the ford computer that plugs into EF/EL's) that let u change the odometer to anything u liked... about a month after it came out ford told dealers to destroy it and produced another one that only allowed that to be done up to 100km on the cluster and once only... im sure alot of dealers still have the old card

Yup,
PM dang, he was the bloke that had that thing to change the odo reading. I used it to wind back a chaser cluster, so the reading matched my previous cluster.
It cost me $69 and needed to leave a $100 deposit, which was refunded when I returned the unit.
The unit is pretty much a plug and play unit, and very easy to use
