Hi, there are two ways of using a Smartlock ECU in a Non Smartlock car.

First is to use a Smartlock Bypass, which is what I have done.

{DESCRIPTION}

The second is to use a J3 chip as discussed in this thread.

I used the Bypass module, as the J3 chip was not an option at that time. I would recommend using a J3 chip, as the price is comparable, and there are many more options available to you with the J3 chip.

Cheers

thanks.

If you type "3DCC" into the FORDMODS now working search function it returns
"3DCC Fairmont Ghia 1994 4.0L Auto 93DA-12A650-CC"

As a happy owner of a J3 myself, I'd highly recommend this product as a good one, with good backup service and helpfulness.

You could get an EL XR tune and the smartlock bypass in one easy sitting... Don't know what would happen with the high stall and the limp mode, but then again -- A smart lock bypass isn't going to sort that out either!

We are all guessing that you have a straight six in there, although your name "XF-UTE-351" would suggest otherwise?

Hi Guys,

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason, just wondering if you guys have any ED XR8 Manual chips yet? I currently have an EB GT ecu in my car, but i haven't been able to test it to see if it actually works. If it doesn't i would be chasing a 1993 XR8 manual, and with rev limiter off. Is this possible? Also, if the ECU itself doesn't work, will a J3 plugged into the bottom be fine or should i just plug the J3 into my original LTD ECU.

Cheers,
Mason

Hi there,

I have Sprint Auto and Manual bins, PM me for more info.

Doubt a chip can revive the dead ECU, depends on what the fault was. I guess if it's flash related it's possible.

Tim,

J3 chips are more reccomended for EL EEC-IV's as they have more memory and are quicker...

I have an ED...

I purchased any old EL EEC-IV and with a custom tune, I have it converted from BBM back to Log Manifold, From Auto Back To Manual, and slight fuelmap change for a Wade 1636...

However added benefits with an EL EEC-IV are, you can run thermos of the PCM without the need to add another temp sensor, there is the output for BBM (triggered at 3800rpm) if you need it...

Strongly reccoemend going this way...

All up cost for me was almost 300 with a custom tune and the EEC-IV delievered...

Cheers,
Tim
