hi guys i need a ecu for my au series1 fairmont will a vct ecu run the car?

Don't see why not assuming both ECU's are smartlock. The original ECU would be a better choice though as it is optimised for best economy Vs Power on the Standard motor.

i am currently running this setup....but car has some other issues so i cant say for sure how good it is...

it will run and you dont need to do anything other than plug it in....i can tell u that much
