Hey everyone. I posted on here trying to find out if there was such thing as a semi-locker diff for a kf laser 5spd which has a tx3 turbo motor in it. Well after asking around alot of people there is no such thing (thanks to everyone who helped me).

Now we are trying to see if there is such thing as straight cut gears for a manual kf laser box.
The reason i ask, as some people might know the gears in the kf 5spd box the gears are not straight, they are all curved, this is my problem.
After taking my gearbox apart i noticed that the gears have be worn and shredded apart. A frind of mine said that if i was able to get straight cut gears that might help to stop the shreding of the gears as they will not be curved.

**So is there such thing as stright cut gears for a KF laser gear-box???**

All help will be much appreciated.

there curved to keep the noise down, to promote easier shifting and also if im not mistaken to maintain more surface area between the 2 connecting gears. straight cut gears do the exact opposite

O i didn't know that curved gears helps maintain more surface area for the gears.

Is there anything that you can recommend that i put into my gearbox that will prevent shredding gears. Cause this is the 3RD set of gears that i have shredded, is there an alternative.

can you take out the a*** on a good box and get them case hardened? maybe have an engineering shop cut a new set of gears out of stronger metals. worst case.

Turbofairmont: when i say shredded i mean that the curved gears, no longer exsist. They have been worn/shaved down.

i haven't thought about get gears made out of stronger metal. It might be worth a try.

i see  how do you drive??? how much power is going through the gear box (flywheel kw)??? do you shift into low gears at high speeds ie 2nd gear @ 100K's (although this will more than likely cause most of the damage to the synco's) when you replaced the a*** did you do just that or did you slap in a 2nd hand tranny???

i spose i change gears sometimes high sometimes low. I can't remember how much i'm putting out at the wheel but its running 10psi and i have a button clutch in it. and the last two times i did the gears i put a 2nd hand box in.
do you reckon its cause i put a 2nd hand box in, as the gears in the 2nd hand boxes probably weren't the best.
Alot of people are telling me to put in a g-series box, the one out of the tx3 turbo and just block the back end so i can keep it front wheel drive.

Try using a better oil. Instead of ATF DexIII, use VMX80. Also, are you filling it to the correct level????
May have to rebuild a box, and have proper preload on all the bearings.

To answer your question Cjh, when the last gearbox was put in which was about 8 months ago it was full rebuild and i am sure that the oil is filled to the right level as my brother does all the work on it as he is a full qualified mechanic.

And what is the difference between ATF DexIII and using VMX80. What makes the second one better???
All help is much appreciated.

Cheers
