I'm not sure what's legal and what's not, but here's some engines I'd look at for a conversion:

Original motor, worked off it's guts
Ford Zetec motor
Alfa Twin Cam
Lotus Twin Cam
EFI 302 Windsor
Commo V6 (shudders)
Alfa Romeo V6

Gab

you wan to keep the ford powerplant or go something different? How long is a piece of string and how deep are your pockets are the 2 defining questions with any build.

Then the real question is, are you married? if so, you need to sit down with the wife and discuss your intentions and aspirations for the project, Its always the woman who makes or breaks a really good project coming to fruition.

No wife, and kids aren't at home, so I can sped a bit of cash and a lot of time on it. would freally like to go with a late model FORD 4 pot, something that bolts up to a rear wheel drive gearbox, and if possible something that I could use original garbox or readily available gearbox without too much modifying to the car. Contemplating a 2.6 astron with a 5 speed and myye turbo, but would like to stick with ford.

My brother pulled next me at a set of traffic lights in Newcastle early one morning in his escort. He yelled out the window and asked if I wanted a beer.
I said yes, So he reached over the back and filled a glass.
He had a keg on tap in the back :o

A series of astron was in the magna's, but Astron's were also in sigma's, L300's, Gallant's and the 4g54 series that came out in Scorpion's and GSR's. If they are built properly, they aren't bad. same as any engine. But, with the escort being a FORD, i'm hoping to keep the driv-train all as ford.

3.0l Duratec. I think Dellows can do an adaptor plate to your existing box, but it will shread it. I would look at a celica 5 speed with a custom tailshaft. the Duratec likes boost as well if you intend on going down that path, or using your existing block they can be made in a 2.2l 8000rpm screamer.

I've heard something about a TX5 or focas 2L that bolts up to an old 1300/1600 or a 1800/2L rear wheel drive box. If so I have both gearboxes alraedy. Anyone knowing any info on this, it would be greatly appreciated and save a lot of head-aches.
