Hi all, im thinking of dropping a BA engine into my AU I wagon. What sort of things (other than the engine itself) would I have to change ?

i didnt find the user i was tellin ya about maybe do a seach for cordy posts. i have had a lot of cordys (bout 20 or more) the main things that spring to mind is the heater box will be in your way cos the crossflows had the back corner of the rocker cover on a angle, i think you will have troble with the sump with the cordys having the hump and oil pick up at the rear of the motor and bonnet clearance and the ecu and wiring could be a problem from what i have read aftermarket systems are the go. i think everythink else will go in with just little problems.

ok well the EB 3.9 and the au looms were completely different so i would need to get the au loom and the ecu. so instread im probably gonna put an ed xr6 in there.
ask 100 people the smae qn theyll all give you different answers

3.9 mpfi or 3.9 cfi? coz if you use your existing engine loom you can fit it to the new au engine (with a bit of stuffing around with longer wires etc). that was you can just plug the loom direct into your normal dash loom etc. however you would still need to run extra wires from the ecu to run bbm or thermos

too hard to use au loom and ecu. you'd have to convert to coilpacks also. well its not that hard i suppose but it would cost alot more and a lot of stuffing around to both find a good loom (you'd need ecu, engine and dash loom to be changed)

oh by the way - you'd need an el ecu if u wanted thermos and to control the bbm properly. dont use a rpm switcher for the bbm - you loose the benefit as the fuel maps are different with a bbm ecu

its mpfi and i dont have time to stuff around with looms im goin to brissy for 3weeks and i dont wanto apy an auto elec to do it $$$$$$ and i was under the impression from looking at the manifold and talking to a few mechanics that the bbm was suction activated, but everyone here says its ecu

well it does use vacuum i think to move the butterfly thingy but the ecu tells it at what rpm to use the vacuum

Its both :lol:

The manifold switches on engine vacuum, but that is controlled by a valve which is opened by the ECU. So when the ecu reads 3800rpm, it opens the valve to the BBM mechansim and the vacuum pulles the butterfly's open.

meph hopefully ill get the engine stuff sorted and in by the time i get back and im scoring some ph4499s of a mates ED which is getting a twin turbo
setup by the same mechanic.

just wondering, is the AU BLOCK the same as an EF block?

like, if i was looking at rebuilding an engine, could i replace a 250k+ EF block with a -100k AU block?

Anthony Briggs has fitted a BA turbo motor into his corty, but his motor is far from std. one of the main probs is that the sump is alloy...
An EF-El motor would be easier due to the sump being made from tin.
But anything is possible with enough $$$ and will...

STD corty Engine mounts should bolt straight on.

Just a question, but why would people want to convert a MPEFI engine to a X-series 'Carby' engine, it will give you less power and torque, why would people do that?

I always thought MPFI gives more power then the carby? and its more fuel economic i think

i was just interested in the block.
ie. would the EF heads/sump/crank etc fit onto an AU block?
