What the spark plug leads plug into.
Diagnostic mode for EA-ED is done by connecting the upper and lower far left pins, on the diagnostics port under the fuse panel.
Alternatively you can earth the top left pin somewwere if you can't join the two clips together.
When they're connected, start the car.
Revs will pick up for a bit, then drop back down.
Once it's dropped down, you can set the timing.

Does someone wanna take a photo of the upper and lower pins connected for dignostic mode so we are certain on what we are doing. :)

^^^And i am with u man how do u know how many degrees u have advanced, i know on most cars there is a little panel which shows u but only about a couple of degrees each way?

i guess u just guestimate off that?? i am probably wrong

Wes.

you guys talk about specific numbers of degrees...how the hell are you supposed ot know when you have adavnced it 12 degress or 15 degrees or whatever...how much visibly does that equate to..ie can someone give a ballpark figure for mm moved for every degree or something?

Timing light + timing marks on harmonic balancers.... will give you the exact reading BTCD assuming the harmonic balancer hasnt slipped :)

I've gotta advance the timing on my EL now that I have an RPD stage 2 cam... I don't have a timing light, so when will I know if I've advanced the timing too far?

1 degree ~ 1.5mm

What will happen if I advance the timing too far? I just wanna advance mine due to an aftermarket cam, but don't want to do any damage. Obviously I'll be increasing it incrementally until there is a problem.. just wondering what signs to look for.

If you increase it too far won't it just ping like a mother f**k? so just adjust it back till it stops pinging?

So what will you do when your girl wants you to service her car or it breaks down??

call racv?.

Dont worry if i see her broken down on the road ILL pull over and give her a hand......;)

Problem is, I spend the extra bob to buy a proper car that dont break down. The only time you will see my girl is when I fly past with her in my car and your on the side of the road fixing your 350,000km ex taxi EA. Sorry if I splashed you in the rain the other day. Ur an expert with fords because you have seen every problem first hand. haha

Yeah you're obviously a tool. I'm not watching this thread anymore. I think the rest of ya should leave Mr moneybags and his EBV8 (hahaha) alone.

Spot on. Too much initial advance will see the engine pinging - usually as it hits midrange and load values increase significantly. 2 deg at a time usually the best bet.

BTW guys - i've tidied this thread up. Its a tech thread relating to adjusting ignition advance - keep it at that.

Cut the rubbish out.

Your EL looks great. Mine looks exactly the same. Is yours lowered 2inch at front and 2inch rear?

I reckon mine doesnt pull as well as it did when it had standard springs? dont know what difference it could make, maybe you just get used to the power and think it used to pull harder???

Guys,

Sorry if I offended anyone. Im not a ford expert, thus that is why I have questions and participate in the forums. Many of my questions promote good discussion. Please dont make defamatory comments relating to my lack of technical knowledge.

I have questions, I seek your knowledge, so help me out not bag me out.
