Hi all,

Recently I was on ebay, and was searching for a pair of Front and Rear Brake Disk Rotors to go for my EL Fairmont with ABS.

Now the thing is, there is so many to choose from, with different patterns of drill holes, grooves, vents, slotted, etc., and different types of materials used, compounds, machines, etc., and many different brands to choose from (adb, rda, dba, upc) etc. Im so confused.. Some have more drill holes, some have less, some have different types of slots than others, they all seem competitive.

could someone give me a recommendation, possibly with a link?

a) it would be for daily driving, i might drive hard occasionally, but its not for the racetrack

b) if it comes with brake pads, bonus

c) i can even the get front and rear separately, whichever combination is better

d) i would prefer drilled (or cross drilled), slotted (better stopping power)

Which pattern set/brand set would be the best to go for? Ill most likely buy this afternoon.

Thanks,

Kayihan

ADB, RDA, DBA are all proven products as well as Protex and a few others.

Personally I would be using slotted and dimpled discs, drilled discs have been know to crack under certain conditions. I have added 2 links below for Front and rear discs, reasonable price with free post.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DIMPLED-SLOT ... 4182ebcf29
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DIMPLED-SLOT ... 41823afa11

Pads are a personal choice depending on the conditions they would be used. Some will give great stopping power when warmed up but are poor when cold, others give good stopping but create large amonts of dust, some squeal, others will wear Slotted rotors very quickly (I have had this experiance with Bendix CT).

ADB supply a very good pad, good alround stopping power with little dust generation and last quite well.

Currently I am using Repco Thermoquad pads and I find these very good. Good stopping power, little dust and no squeal.

There are many more to chose from, EBC etc.

Hope this is of some help, I am sure others will have their opinons based or their experiences.

Hi sir,

Thank you for the reply. I was just about to click buy, but then I realised, are they supposed to be "rust free"? because i have seen alot of rotors on ebay that are rust free, corrosion resistant, etc etc with all these coatings and plated with certain stuff.

How could i be sure?

Regards,

Kayi.

PS: oh and, what about just slotted and no dimpled? I mean, like 10 slots all over the disc (like the ones on the NASCAR). they dont have any dimples, they just have heaps of slots...

should i go for slotted and dimpled? or just slotted all over?

i think im just starting to confuse myself now..

Not all suppliers "coat" their discs. I just give the areas other than the disc and studs a quick coat of "Killrust" (any good paint would do). Stops corrosion and then wash down the disc area to remove the protective coating.

What about just slotted and no dimpled? I mean, like 10 slots all over the disc (like the ones on the NASCAR). they dont have any dimples, they just have heaps of slots...
They would be fine, I use just slotted on the front of mine at the moment.

Well if you know what you are looking for then do a search.

The "rust free coating" is no different to paint and you pay extra.

I purchased the new DBA T2 slotted rotors for mine, front and rear... Have been pretty happy with them... Click the image for more info... The come painted in the centre so you don't have to paint them yourself... And the contact area has an oil on it which MUST be removed before use... Cleaned off with brake cleaner or something similar (don't spray it on the painted area otherwise it wont be painted)...

But as SWC said, each to their own...

Cheers,
Tim
