How can I de gas the air con system.

Legally: take it to an auto electrician/aircon tech and have it de-gassed there
Illegally: look for the high pressure hose connection (looks like a tyre valve with a light blue cap) and hold the button down and vent to atmosphere. Keep your head/eyes/face away. !!BE TOLD THOUGH, THIS IS THE ILLEGAL WAY!! |

ok thanks. is the gas carcinogenic. been told that some are and some aren't.

Got auto elect coming to de gas it. Not taking the chance to many things cause cancer these days.

Best way............
Don't run the aircon. pump too long without gas, as there is a lubricant mixed in with the gas that keeps the pump lubricated. The pump will fail after a while without the pressure and lubricant. The aircon pump can be left "connected" to the engine via the belt, but just don't switch the aircon on. |

All gases are a chemical with various affect - however what you refer to is the possibility of cancer due to Prolonged use of R!2 gas (old type gas replaced by R134a) which can build up in your body,was more a concern for people servicing A/C systems if they actually were aware of this............ Having it degassed professionally is the best option,but is there a reason for this? |

bearing seized on another motor I have on an ef. so while swapping blocks on el might as well change the compressor on my ef.

original plan was to de gas it myself change them over and then get it re gassed by auto elec. said he'd de gas it for now and when I'm finished he come to me and re gas it therefore no damage will be done.

If the compressor isn't leaking, there's not really much point changing it, as you'll need two new HNBR O rings for the connector.
Other thing is too, change the receiver/drier (reasonably cheap from Burson's), as it probably hasn't been done in a long time - pull the front bumper for this, and do it just before evacuation/recharging. Degas shouldn't remove too much oil, but add about 10ml or so for the receiver/drier change, as it is important to maintain the oil content.

How about you provide more detail on what's happened and your intentions.

I have a seized auxiliary shaft in an EL sedan and a seized compressor bearing in an ef wagon. got another motor in an different el sedan from a friend. while changing motor over thought I might as well do the compressor on the ef. how hard is it change the compressor bearing.
