G'day thrillseekers. Just a quickie: are the alternators from an EB and EF the same?? I.e.: can you use an EF (6) alt. on an EB (6). It's just that I've got a spare EF one, and the one on the EB is stuffed.

EB and EF alternators aren't the same. EF are 110amp and I believe EB is 85amp but please check that. You should be able to use an EF on an EB but you will need to change the pully.

Thanks for that I, thought as much. Ah well, I'm gonna have look on fleabay and see what I can find second hand (car's not worth a new one:D )

the eb pulley wont fit onto the ef alternator, the offset of the pulley is different and doesnt go on far enough to get a nut on there.
not to mention the mounting is different and is not a direct bolt up.. the ef alternator can be modified to fit with some grinding and you will have to run the 4rib belt on the 6 rib pulley... |

Thanks heaps for the info, but it's just not worth the effort. The car is my town hack, and has done I don't know how many kms. The odo stopped working about 18 months ago at 36k kms. If I can pick up a 2nd hand one and it lasts a year, I'll be quite happy.
