Hi
im new to this forum.
My grandfathers car has recently started having bubbles coming from the up pipe of the radiator into the radiator coolant overflow bottle. does this mean that the head gasket has blown off and now i will b having to replace it. also when i do remove all the compartments my father has told me it is best to have the height of the cylinders checked by a professional.
any help is greatly appreciated. forgot to mention its a fairlane ghia 2000 au series 2 with 300,000 on the clock injected gas and a 6cyl engine.
cheers.

Quite probable it is a gasket. You can have the bubbles checked by a radiator specialist, who will see if there are any combustion gasses in the water.

I don't think there is any need to check the cylinder "heights" but a good idea to have the head shaved, and, at that distance, the valves reground. In other words: a head "freshen up".

Probably blew the gasket by overheating.

Most after market kits are fine, just make sure it is a MLS (Multi Layer Steel) head gasket, as non MLS will only last for a few thousand K's. Saying that, I don't think non MLS gaskets are available for AU anyway.
