Hard decision.
AUIII XR6 would have all the bugs ironed out of it.
BA XT MkI - first model line ... probably got so many bugs in it you'll end up just having to replace things constantly and still have problems.

Nothing wrong with a mk1 BA XT. It'll go hard too without too much trouble.

Go the AU!

Even cab drivers are bagging out the BA to BF in a big way, they say the AU is by far the best cab EVER!

To me that's saying they're a good car, for the beating a cab cops.

I was close to buying a BA, but i am so glad i bought the AU Lane.
The best part is it's not classified in the ugly AU bracket, but to me the only ugly AU was the low series 1.

ive had an au and a ba, trust me, the ba goes way harder and its stock, an au xr6 wont beat a stock xt ba at the best of times, ba's get off the mark alot quicker. how do i know this... dad had mums xt mk1 and it beat my au and mine had the exaust, extractors, intake and other bits n pieces. depends on wat ya like, to be honest i hate the look of the xt ba, would neva buy one, surely its not that much of a difference in price to the ba xr6.

there's no way a au3 xr6 will outbrake a ba! handling maybe, but not the brakes. and yes i've driven both. for the price of an au3 xr6 you could do a bit better than a xt. 03/4 futura or 02 fairmont.

as was mentioned earlier. no competition. upgrade the suspension on the ba and get an edit and goodbye au.

man get a clue, ive dragged so many BA XT's at the lights when my AUI was STOCK, and they only beat me by a car length (approx 400m)

BA couldnt stand against an AUIII XR6, its just plain logic, the BA is heavier and only slightly more powerfull then a stock non-XR AU

Cameroncoulston you have no idea what you are talking about.
My ELXR could beat a BAXt/XR in stock form manual vs manual, and i've been whipped by au's before. The AU is quicker out of the box, it's that simple, and the base range BAs look woeful, one of the most boring cars on the road.

BA XT 0.111794 kw/kg
AUIII XR6 VCT 0.116216 kw/kg
AUIII XR6 HP 0.110811 kw/kg

this is a fair idea of power the vct model should out perfrom the BA the HP model will prob get beaten mind you the figures are very close.

i would imagin in a standing drag the au would win only because of the final drive, but be close.

fuel economy is similar, id lean at the AU just becaus its a tickford enhanced mode even the BA XR6 is a XT with a body kit.

100 metres behind, I thought the car ahead was a commowhore. when I got closer, I realize it was a Freaken BA. he notice me so he tried to out run me up the hills. no chance, I'm right up his six.

got to the top of the hill. goodie, heaps of S bends, right & left sweeps down hill. Halfway down I check my rear, the BA was no where to being seen.

I slowed down, just to be sure. that the bastard in the BA did not roll over the side of the hill.

auto vs auto my ba embareses my old mans au and outruns my brothers au2 xls 5 speed and mine is an auto.

more so since its been tickled by jays rpd ;)

edit: 2003 motor mag says
manual XT 1673kg and 7.23 sprint to 100k's
auto xr6na 1685kg and 8.11 0-100
15.2 for the xt manual and 15.8 for the xr6 auto
al you need is an edit to get rid of the torque tags and youll have crazy low down power that will embaress most cars.

The BA is just all over a better car.

Independent rear suspension is something most of you have failed to mention and to my mind it is THE biggest difference between them. The IRS makes better handling in corners, better stopping and gets power to the ground better. The BA is just a high quality car through and through. And you can drive the auto like a manual anyway.

Go the BA, there is no comparison for quality.

The only advantage an XR6 has is resale value.
