Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of my build, I've got the turbo kit bigger injectors
Updated fuel pump and surge tank and ecu all ready to go....
However, I've pulled the Tickford XR6 head off my engine and its getting machined
valves vacuum tested and clean ed, but I noticed everyone on here using the AU
MLS gasket in place of the original composite gasket... I'm aware better compression and will stand up
Under boost better, but I looked on the bore size and its 2mm bigger in bore on the AU to the EL...
This means there is less gasket in between the cylinders... It's this going to cause and issue???

Please help I'm about to fold and just get a VRS kit with a graphite head gasket for the EL if I can't figure out out...

Regards

Jake

I was under the impression the AU and EL stroke and bore were identical? Tickford_6 should have the down low on it.

I'm inclined to think your right, I just did a quick Google of the bore and
Stroke of the AU vs EL and they are both 92 x 99...

The difference in size I was referring to was in the gasket...
The cut out for each cylinder bore is 2mm larger in dia in the AU to the EL...
I'm still dubious about it, I need the MLS gasket to run boost... :x

Used AU MLS gasket on my engine without issues and many people as well. If memory serves me right, which it doesn't most of the time, the MLS gasket had the same size cylinder cut outs as the block...not over sized.

According to the ACL website, EF-EL and AU engines all have the same bore size of 92mm/3.62in. EB-ED had 91.86mm/3.62in

I have also read somewhere that you can use 2 AU MLS gaskets to lower the compression for turbo application...but that's just something I read somewhere a while ago...so could be way wrong.

Also here are some photos from my build showing gasket cut out to cylinder bore.

The cut outs are the same size as bore.

Did the AU head bolts fit with the E series rocker cover? As in did you have to grind anything to make it fit? :?:

Nope...all fit fine with AU head bolts. I bought both AU MLS and bolts genuine from Ford, not sure if aftermarket ones are any different. I have heard of people requiring to shave a bit off the head of the bolt for clearance with the rocker pedestals, but I think they were for early models...EA-EB? Someone can correct me on that.

It's weird my little oval water jacket holes look different to yours... I tried to upload images of it but the post keeps saying file invalid

Does the MLS gasket cover some of the existing water jacket holes?
