150000kms, replaced plug yesterday, so i guess it could be a coil, but i wouldn't know how to check them......

Had the fuel system professionally cleaned at local ford dealer, at which time they also downloaded latest updates to the ecu for fuel mapping and trans shifts. Fuel consumption has improved dramatically and idle is pretty much as it should be. Problem solvered.

i took the gas mixer out of the intake and got latest ecu software at ford, fixed my idle, stalling and surging. car still doesn't take off quick enough from a stand still and 4th gear cant be reached untill exactly 70km, so im often cruising round at 1800rpm and 60km. getting 400kms out of a tank of fuel, not using gas anymore...

When you say, 4th gear can't be reached until 70. is that in drive, or tiptronic? In drive mine takes to 70, but in tiptronic i go into 4th at about 40.

that just made me laugh. they can stall if there's something wrong with them.

if I give my xt a bootful when idling, 9/10 it will stall.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm chasing a very difficult issue. Have just replaced all the coils with VDO ones and it seemed great for a day.
How did you know it was the new ones being faulty too?
