I am soon to have a go at changing the intake manifold gaskets on my BA I6. I am confident to tackle this job but I was just wanting to know if I need any specialist tools to complete the job.

I assume the process would be, remove air box and piping, remove throttle body, remove the top half of the plenum, remove the fuel rail and injectors and then begin the tedious task of trying to remove all the bolts holding the lower half of the manifold to the head.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Not too bad of a job - I would replace the throttle body and plenum gaskets also since you'll have them apart. As long as you have 10mm ratchet spanner and 1/4" socket set you should be fine for the manifold bolts.

Hi Mate, thanks for the info - Does the fuel rail need to be removed? Some say yes and some say no

Another way to go is use a fg intake manifold which use O-rings instead of a gasket, you'll never have a problem with the inlet manifold ever again, the O-rings will outlast the engine itself. There is a thread on here for a guide.
