Hi Guys,
Just bought a 2005 BA MKII XT Auto 157,000kms runs fine but has a random problem.
Check engine light will come on and it starts to run rough eventually stall but if you turn it off then start it again it will be fine. This can even be done while its stalling and still driving along, turn it off then on restart its fine no check engine light. No fault codes.
Cleaned throttle body
new fuel filter
new air filter
reset ECU
Cleaned fuel reg
added fuel system cleaner

Next time the check engine light comes on, scan it in the continuous codes section of the scantool, if it is a one trip code it wont show up as a hard fault. If the check engine light come on it would have logged some information in the pcm. Is the engine dedicated gas, petrol and gas, or petrol only, if I was taking a punt, I would say that one camshaft is out of phase with the other because it is loosing information from a cam sensor, and when you turn the engine off both cams lock in the fully advanced timing position and the valve timing is right again.

That is why any engine that has electronic throttle control, and variable valve timing, scan data is paramount.

Thanks Rod will look in to that Its petrol only. I got another TPS today so I am trying that as well.
I will have to check if my scantool has that option its this type so not sure how good it is.
