my mechanic said that it's a pretty simple job, and virtually most of it goes into place.

he said that motec's are a bit of a rip off, and something like WOLF 3D would be cheaper and just as good?

nah he said it's not that difficult.
you've got to mess around with supports to get it sitting in properly, then a lot of the mechanical side should fit, with some adjustments on certain things.

then you've just got to figure out the managment system side?

is this correct?
opinions?

Thats what people are saying here, physically it goes in, good luck with the engine management side.
There was a lot of talk about how Rank Rotary did JETXR with Wolf3D v4, using Wolfs boost control to phase the cams, but who knows really.
You could try talk to them, or try find someone who is willing to make the stock management work, or do what others are saying and forget the cams.

I was more referring to the comment about Motec vs Wolf3D in my post as well.

Closing statement.
Talking to C*** on the internet will not get you any closer to doing it.
Internets are great for info on s**t thats been done before a million times.
Not so good on s**t that is rarely done, or hasn't been done.
Because you get people that haven't done it giving you advice :P

haha well said man.
but i have learnt a little bit already!
so not all that useless at all.

my mechanic is pretty experience in engine rebuilding as he does motorsport also.
he said he'd send the engine management side to a guy he knows once it came to that.
guess i'll research thoroughly by calling around and going to places to see if they can do it.

one last question.
if you didn't worry about the cams, would effect would it have?

Dunno, best to speak to someone who tunes BAs and see what they've found when playing with the cam phasing.
It'd affect where it makes power most likely, depending where the cams get locked too.

thanks steady, i'll definatelly have a look into it.

i'm very keen to get this underway in the next 6months.
i know alot of people talk about doing it.

JETXR, That's who had done the BA motor into an XR6. Thanks for that.

His car looked sweet, but as I said earlier, he had to cut a hole in his bonnet. Have a look at how close it sits...

i've got the street machine issue with it.

and also got another like with about 15photos of JET XR on it.

i dont mind that it sits so close, i'm going to go for a custom bonnet.
it wont be a BA bulge or cut out, something unique!

luckily my occupation is website design.
i'll design the custom bonnet and possibly a custom front bar too.

In the BA the cams are phase-locked, ie they advance or retard together, so the overlap doesn't change and you don't really get the full benefit of dual phasing (unlike the BF). As boost comes on fairly early, giving max torque from under 2000rpm, I'd say to lock the cams with enough advance to give good response from idle to 2000 or so. The turbo will take care of the rest of the rev range.

Not only are the exhaust ports different shapes and the bolt patterns different, most of the sensors are different and the PCMs' communications protocols are incompatible.

I'm usually on the opposite side of the argument to Steady ED, but on this occasion I'm in total agreement with him. :twisted:

and even then budget $10k for a turbo setup (not any crazy headwork or bottom end work on the motor)

If you have the time, money and patience i'd go for the the DOHC engine, what's more unique than twin cams? Haha, But if you want simple, reasonably cheap power (in comparison to the DOHC) stick with a worked SOHC and turbo the nuts off it.
